Rebecca's grip on Damien's collar loosened slightly as the sound of her ringtone cut sharply through the tense atmosphere. The shrill vibration felt almost intrusive, pulling her momentarily away from the rage she had been pouring into Damien.
She didn't even want to answer. Whoever it was could wait she was in the middle of something far more important. But a thought flickered in her mind, what if it was urgent? What if it was something that couldn't wait?
With an annoyed sigh, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. The screen lit up with an unknown number. Her brows furrowed. That only irritated her more. "Tch… now of all times?" she muttered under her breath.
Damien, still on the floor clutching his jaw, looked up at her in a daze, trying to catch his breath between groans of pain. But Rebecca's attention was already on the phone.
Against her better judgment, and driven partly by curiosity, she swiped to answer.
