We stopped right in front of the quarters. The king stepped down first and then helped me down, his hand warm and steady. As always, Lord Rowland was already waiting at the entrance.
"Greetings, your highness," he said with a bow. I smiled at him gently.
"Where is my sister?" Karl asked, his voice tight with worry. I could feel how anxious he was. He cared deeply for Rosa. He had once told me that his sisters meant everything to him.
"In her room. I gave the order for their release," Rowland replied.
The king placed a hand on his arm, a simple gesture, but it said so much. He was pleased.
"You did well, Rowland," the king said with a nod.
We walked into the quarters, and the first person we saw was Fortuna. Her eyes widened the moment she saw me beside the king. The look on her face said it all. She had no idea I went with Karl.
I avoided her eyes. I didn't want another scene.
