I didn't bother changing my dress. I had already made up my mind. I was going to meet Fortuna. After all, she was the queen and the one in charge of the quarters. I was just a concubine, nothing more. When she called, I was expected to come running.
"She's waiting downstairs," Marissa said when I stepped out of my room. That surprised me. I thought we'd be meeting in her chambers.
I nodded and made my way down.
Most of the other women were still awake, sitting around as usual. I could tell by their faces that they'd been talking—probably gossiping. I had never really joined their conversations, but Marissa often said they could talk about anything and everything.
"Princess Katrina," Fortuna said, standing from her seat as I entered. She walked over to me, her eyes scanning me from head to toe. "Welcome back to the palace. We thought you wouldn't return anytime soon, but here you are. I'm sure you enjoyed yourself."
