Queen Fortuna waited at the entrance of the quarters for Angelina. She couldn't stay in her room no matter how hard she tried. Her heart was pounding with fear. What if things didn't go the way they planned? It would be a disaster. Xavier would surely come for her.
She knew the kind of man he was ruthless, selfish, and ready to protect himself even if it meant ruining someone else. He wouldn't think twice before exposing everything.
She had to stay sharp. She had to protect herself. No one, especially Karl, must ever find out about the secrets she was hiding. If he did, everything would fall apart.
"You should take a rest, Queen Fortuna," one of the women weaving mats in the courtyard said gently, but Fortuna didn't even look her way.
She kept pacing back and forth, biting her nails till her fingers began to ache. It was a bad habit she couldn't shake off. She always did it when fear took hold of her, and right now, she was drowning in it.
