Chapter 575 - Chapter 575: What You Call the Truth

Adam Lester desperately wanted an explanation.

One that could truly convince him.

He loved his wife too much. Now, he only wanted to know the truth about her.

So even though he completely distrusted this exorcist-this magician-who had shattered the peace of his life, Adam still chose to gamble.

He slowly loosened his grip.

Almost immediately, he felt something wrong.

The exorcist had cast a Drowsiness Charm on him.

Instead of panicking, Adam felt a strange sense of relief.

As his resistance faded, drowsiness surged over him.

Soon, his body could no longer move.

Yet his consciousness remained.

"Damn it!"

Strange shoved the werewolf off him.

In that brief instant, he completed another spell.

Blood-like plasma instantly splashed across the werewolf-and all over Strange himself.

"No!"

Casey screamed.

She lunged forward, throwing herself over Adam's blood-covered body.

"No! No! No! Why? Why is this happening?!"

"Madam," Strange said slowly, rubbing his still-sore neck, "I'm afraid you've misunderstood something."

"He's a werewolf."

"And he's the one who killed your sister."

"Him?"

Casey's face was streaked with tears. Her voice was hoarse.

She screamed hysterically.

"What do you know? What do you know?! You know nothing! You damned bastard-who told you to interfere?! Why did you do this?!"

"What do I know?" Strange replied calmly. "Or rather-what do you know?"

He walked back to Everett, cast a Waking Charm on him, then turned to examine the werewolf.

Adam Lester lay on the floor, breathing steadily.

Completely still.

Deeply asleep.

Strange relaxed.

Casey, meanwhile, was on the verge of collapse.

That pleased him even more.

Everything was proceeding as planned.

There had been minor miscalculations-they underestimated Adam's combat strength-but the situation was still under control.

He had persuaded Adam to cooperate through carefully chosen words.

And Casey's extreme emotional reaction confirmed his suspicions.

What came next would be easy.

He just needed her to speak.

"Feeling better, John?" Strange asked.

Before continuing, he needed confirmation.

"Damn it, Sherlock," Everett groaned, rubbing his head. "That guy's strong. My head's still spinning."

"Stop whining and get up," Strange said flatly. "I've handled everything else."

Seeing Everett awake, he didn't bother further.

Strange walked toward Casey, who was still sobbing.

He shook his head slowly.

"Your words are dangerously misleading, madam."

"Let me be clear. Your sister is dead."

"And the one who killed her is that werewolf."

As he spoke, Strange watched her closely.

He was nervous.

So nervous that he almost reached for the truth serum.

But he restrained himself.

If she really was cooperating with magicians, forcing it now would be a mistake.

"What do you know?" Casey glared at him with hatred.

"You know nothing! You're just a bastard stirring up trouble!"

"Oh?" Strange raised an eyebrow.

"Then it seems you do know something."

"Or are you his accomplice? Are you hiding him?"

"Accomplice?"

Casey's expression twisted.

She began to laugh hysterically.

"No! I caused my sister's death!"

"Strictly speaking-it's all my fault! All of it!"

"Oh?"

Strange deliberately put on a curious look.

Behind his back, his hand signaled Everett.

Record everything.

Just as expected, believing Adam was already dead, Casey began to unravel.

She confessed everything.

And in the process, Strange realized some of his earlier assumptions were wrong.

Casey had fallen in love with her brother-in-law, Adam Lester.

In fact, she had met Adam first.

But for reasons she never understood, Adam chose her sister, Mia.

That choice shattered her.

Jealousy consumed her.

Time passed.

Mia and Adam married.

Casey's resentment deepened.

She clung desperately to the hope of winning Adam back.

She tried everything.

Every attempt failed.

She still didn't give up.

Until this year.

When she learned Mia and Adam were preparing to have a child, she finally understood.

She had no chance left.

Then one night, everything changed.

While Mia was away for work, Casey went to Adam's house.

That night was a full moon.

Through the curtains, something went wrong.

Adam had locked himself inside a specially prepared room.

But Casey noticed clues.

She pushed further.

Risked everything to uncover the truth.

And she succeeded.

Adam Lester was a werewolf.

She wasn't afraid.

She was excited.

Because now, she held a secret that belonged only to her and Adam.

Something she could use.

She could tell her sister.

Force her to leave.

That was when a group of mysterious people approached her.

Casey worked as a senior employee at a luxury jewelry brand.

She had access to resources.

The robed figures wanted high-purity diamonds.

She didn't know who they were.

They always wore monk-like robes.

But she understood one thing.

They were magicians.

She had seen the Battle of New York in 2012.

She remembered the portals.

Her thoughts shifted again.

She agreed to trade.

Her condition was simple.

The magicians would reveal Adam's true nature to her sister.

In return, she would secure the diamonds.

She never imagined the nightmare that followed.

She only wanted the truth revealed.

But after casting a spell to knock Mia unconscious, those magicians threw her into the neighboring basement.

Then they forced Adam to transform again.

Everything spiraled out of control.

When Casey followed them to observe, she witnessed it.

Adam, fully transformed and out of control, devoured Mia alive.

Her world collapsed.

She regretted everything.

Regretted ever cooperating with them.

Then the magicians told her plainly.

"The job is done. Even more thoroughly than requested."

"She can do whatever she wants now."

"But if she breaks the agreement-more people will die."

Casey had no choice.

She obeyed.

Using Mia's account, she purchased a batch of high-purity diamonds.

Tonight was the agreed exchange.

"Now you know everything!" Casey screamed, her face contorted.

"Look what you've done! Look what you've done!"

"We only did what was necessary," Strange said quietly.

He turned to Everett.

"Recorded?"

"Yes," Everett replied. "Perfectly clear."

"You..."

Casey stared at them blankly.

She didn't understand.

"We apologize for using certain methods," Strange said, shaking his head.

"But you're a civilian. This must be handed over to civilian authorities."

"That's why we need testimony."

"Your own."

For the first time, Strange smiled.

The outcome was tragic.

The situation complicated.

It even involved Kamar-Taj's magicians.

But it was over.

He had completed his mission.

"What's the point of testimony now?" Casey cried.

"This involves magicians! Who can handle that?! S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

"Do you even know anyone in S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

She looked at Adam lying on the floor.

Tears streamed down her face as she gently touched him.

"He's dead. It's over. Everything's over..."

"I'm afraid he isn't dead yet," Strange sighed.

"As for whether we know anyone-that's not your concern."

"And as for your diamonds, I think-"

"What do you mean 'not dead yet'?"

Before Strange could finish, a halo abruptly opened beside them.

Strange's pupils shrank.

A transparent, glass-like sword shot forward-

Straight toward his chest.
