"Sherlock, are you sure this will work?"
Everett followed Strange as they hurried toward the Lestrange residence, his voice tight with doubt.
Even now, he wasn't convinced.
Strange's plan was something that could work.
Not something that was guaranteed to.
To Everett, it felt ridiculous.
Cassie was the one who had harmed her own sister.
A woman that ruthless-how could she possibly reveal the truth just from pressure?
And Adam Lestrange?
Everett still felt that handling him this way was wrong.
When that man transformed, he was terrifying.
The physique, the claws, the sheer ferocity-
Everett didn't think the two of them could handle it.
"Relax, John," Strange said evenly. "Werewolves aren't as difficult as you think. Many exorcists deal with them easily."
He was nervous himself.
But he didn't let it show.
"Our goal isn't to kill him. Just put him to sleep. After that, it's simple."
"Damn it," Everett muttered. "This still feels unreliable."
Even so, he followed Strange to the front gate.
"One last question," Everett said. "What if he realizes Cassie is missing too?"
"I'll erase it," Strange replied quietly. "If necessary, I'll make him forget the marriage entirely."
"...That feels unethical," Everett sighed. "Alright. How do we get in?"
Strange looked at him like he was stupid.
Then pressed the doorbell.
Adam Lestrange recognized them and opened the electronic gate without hesitation.
"Have you found something, detectives?" Adam asked. His tone was polite, but tired. "Would you like a drink? Or is there something else?"
"To be precise," Strange nodded, "we have."
Then he asked abruptly,
"Have you felt an unusual fullness in your stomach recently?"
"...Yes," Adam said after a pause. "It's strange. Like I've eaten too much, but I don't remember doing so."
Strange and Everett watched him closely.
When Adam finished speaking, Everett glanced at Strange and gave a subtle nod.
No deception.
Strange exhaled quietly.
Then his expression hardened.
Golden light spilled from his body.
Adam froze.
His gaze sharpened.
"You're exorcists?" he asked cautiously. "No-sorcerers?"
"No," Strange said calmly. "Exorcists."
Then, without hesitation,
"Werewolf."
Adam nodded instead of panicking.
"There's been a misunderstanding," he said. "I'm registered with the Ministry of Magic. Legal residency. Didn't you check?"
Strange's heart sank.
He hadn't.
This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
Adam wasn't panicking.
He wasn't defensive.
He just looked confused.
Strange hesitated, wondering if he should stop-
Then footsteps echoed from the stairs.
Cassie appeared, her expression twisted with irritation.
"Why are you back?" she snapped. "I told you my sister disappeared on her own. Why won't you leave us alone?"
That was the fuse.
Strange and Everett both knew-there was no more time.
Cassie being here made this the only chance.
Strange acted instantly.
"He's a werewolf!" he shouted. "Stay back!"
"Revelio!"
Hexagram runes flared in his hands.
Golden magic burst outward.
Strange knew the rules.
A werewolf could keep its sanity when transformed-
Unless exposed to the silver moon, or forced by a potion.
A berserk werewolf was unstoppable.
He prayed Adam would remain rational.
"Aaah!"
Adam screamed as his body convulsed.
Silver-gray fur erupted from his skin.
Muscles expanded. Teeth sharpened.
In seconds, a werewolf knelt before them.
"Why...?" Adam gasped, agony in his voice. "Why are you doing this? I followed the law. I submitted everything to the Ministry!"
"Why!"
The cry echoed.
Things had gone too far.
But stopping now wasn't an option.
"Make sure your Obliviate works," Everett swallowed hard and charged forward.
Strange stayed silent.
Everett's role was distraction.
Strange would strike from behind.
But he had overestimated Everett-and underestimated the werewolf.
In a single clash, Everett was sent flying.
Adam hadn't even used his claws.
Strange felt both relieved and alarmed.
He's still sane.
But this strength-this is absurd.
"Expelliarmus!"
Seizing the moment, Strange cast the spell.
He avoided lethal magic.
Golden force slammed into Adam, sending him crashing into the wall.
The structure shattered.
Adam lay among the rubble-uninjured.
Strange swallowed.
"Stop! No!" Cassie screamed.
Strange ignored her.
He lunged forward, pinned Adam down, and punched him hard.
The pain shot through his hand.
Adam didn't even flinch.
Blood flooded Adam's eyes.
In the next instant, he reversed positions and slammed Strange to the floor.
Claws closed around Strange's throat.
"Why!!"
Air vanished.
The pressure was unbearable.
Strange struggled to breathe.
Magic wouldn't come.
His vision blurred.
I'm running out of time.
"I... I..." he forced out. "Your wife... I know the truth... just one more step..."
Adam froze.
The bloodlust faded slightly.
His grip loosened.
"Don't-don't speak!"
Strange sucked in air, coughing violently.
"We know you're a good man," he rasped. "You followed the rules. We won't harm you. Believe me. We're just trying to uncover the truth."
"To do that," Adam snarled, "you expose me in front of my family?"
"You couldn't choose another way?"
Strange nodded weakly.
"You're right. This was our mistake."
"But we will give you an explanation."
"I'll hold you to that," Adam said quietly.
