Chapter 573 - Chapter 573: No Mercy

"Ugh-"

Everett leaned against the wall, dry-heaving.

Strange wasn't doing much better.

His face was deathly pale.

Just moments ago, they had watched a scene replayed through a magic circle.

A scene enough to shatter anyone's sanity.

Now they finally understood why the garage reeked of blood.

And why Mia Lestrange's body had vanished.

The truth was horrifying.

And revolting.

It was unclear whether the problem lay with Strange, or with a flaw in Constantine's original magic circle.

What was certain was this-

They saw everything.

From beginning to end.

Not a single moment was missed.

If the spell hadn't ended when it did, they might have rushed out and killed Adam Lestrange on the spot.

That man had eaten his wife alive.

If not for noticing his abnormal mental state earlier, they really might have done it.

"Damn it," Everett said hoarsely after retching for a long time. "This spell of yours is messed up. Can't it skip parts?"

"I can't help it," Strange replied, still nauseous. "It's my first time using a spell from this formula. How would I know it'd be like this?"

Their recovery speed was impressive.

Only a few minutes passed before they steadied themselves.

Given their former professions, it made sense.

One had been a top neurosurgeon.

The other, a CIA agent.

They'd both seen things ordinary people couldn't endure.

If this hadn't been so sudden-

So profoundly anti-human-

They wouldn't have reacted this badly.

Fortunately, it was over.

They didn't have to face that hell again.

Or so they thought.

Because the scene didn't end there.

After Adam Lestrange fully transformed into a werewolf and devoured his wife-

A portal opened behind him.

Strange froze.

He knew that portal.

He had seen it before.

So had Everett.

They recognized it instantly.

And their expressions darkened.

A wizard.

Everett immediately recalled the skies over New York.

He never imagined wizards would be involved here.

Strange felt something even worse.

Unlike Everett, he knew magical history.

That spell-

That portal-

Wasn't something ordinary wizards could use.

It was unique to Kamar-Taj.

People from Kamar-Taj.

Strange swallowed hard.

If that was true, this wasn't just trouble.

It was big trouble.

"S-Sherlock," Everett muttered. "That's a wizard..."

"Yes," Strange nodded quietly. "And not a simple one."

That was putting it mildly.

Strange sighed inwardly but didn't explain.

He watched the portal silently.

He wanted to see who it was.

As the portal expanded, a figure stepped through.

Monastic robes.

An unremarkable appearance.

But his eyes-

As if burned by fire.

Darkened like soot.

Evil.

Strange had never seen a face like that.

But one thing was clear.

This man wasn't from the London Sanctum.

Strange exhaled.

Thank goodness.

If it had been someone from the London Sanctum, they'd be dead already.

Reality wasn't a fairy tale.

There was no guaranteed triumph of good.

No miracle where the weak overcame the strong.

Strange understood that well.

"Thank god," he murmured. "If it were him, we'd be finished."

"Him?" Everett whispered urgently. "Sherlock, if this guy finds us, we're dead anyway!"

"Not necessarily," Strange replied softly. "Someone will deal with him."

"He broke the laws of the magical world."

"You don't attack ordinary humans without authorization."

"And especially not here."

"What do you mean?" Everett understood the first part, but not the rest.

Strange didn't explain.

He kept watching the light-constructed scene.

He was already considering whether to contact his mentor.

Then-

Another figure walked in.

Both Strange and Everett stiffened.

Mia Lestrange's sister.

Cassie.

They never expected this.

She was working with the sorcerer.

Together, they had murdered Mia Lestrange.

"No wonder she was nervous," Everett sighed. "Then recovered so fast."

"So she was collaborating with a wizard."

"But why?"

"Sherlock, is this evidence?"

"I'm not sure," Strange sighed. "By mundane law, probably not."

"But by magical law?"

"It absolutely is."

"So what now?"

"I think we need to find Mr. Lestrange..."

Strange rubbed his temples.

"Damn it. I really don't think he can handle this."

The misunderstanding surrounding Adam Lestrange was now clear.

Strange could fully believe how deeply the man loved his wife.

How could Adam accept this truth?

"Forget it," Everett said heavily. "Let's find out why her sister did this first."

"Sister-in-law love?" he added. "You think that's it?"

"Very likely," Strange nodded.

He hadn't forgotten what he saw yesterday.

Cassie's gaze toward Adam had been wrong.

Strange had seen that look before.

On Dr. Palmer.

And on Adam himself, staring at his wife's photos.

He was certain.

She loved her brother-in-law.

Then an idea struck him.

A simple one.

If you love him-

Then say everything.

Strange's thoughts raced as he began planning how.

Noah emerged slowly from the shadows with Nagini.

The mountains twisted.

The sky inverted.

Space warped, isolating everything around them.

Noah stood calmly, watching the distortion.

A figure landed before him.

"You're interesting," Noah said lightly. "You knew this was my territory."

"And you still came."

Space twisted again.

Rocks crumbled into fine sand.

It surged forward, engulfing the man.

A sphere formed.

Floating before Noah.

"So evil," Noah scoffed, staring at the man's eyes. "Seems none of you took my words seriously."

"You still fell."

"Hmph," the trapped man sneered. "Aren't you the ones who violate nature the most?"

He knew he was finished.

He knew who Noah was.

And how terrifying he was.

There was no hope of survival.

Not after breaking Kamar-Taj's rules.

Especially not with Noah present.

"Speak," Noah said flatly. "What are you doing? What have you done?"

"Tell the truth."

"Don't think about suicide."

"Don't think about resisting."

"I have many ways to make you talk."

"Your cooperation determines how comfortable your death is."

"I knew you'd say that," the man grinned. "But our mission is almost done."

"We were retrieving something."

"If we hadn't underestimated your relationship with the York Magic Association, we wouldn't have slipped up."

"Continue," Noah nodded. "I'm starting to like your answer."

"We always split up," the man said. "We don't know who you'll catch."

"So whoever's left finishes the mission and escapes."

"Unfortunately, you caught me."

Noah tilted his head.

Amused.

When he arrived at the community, he sensed two magical signatures.

He grabbed one at random.

That didn't mean the other could escape.

Not with the Time Stone.

Shaking his head, Noah prepared to continue-

Then felt a response from the ring he'd given Strange.

Noah smiled faintly.

Looking at the still-grinning man, he lost interest.

The sand compressed violently.

The man screamed.

For the first time, true fear flooded him.

Bones creaked.

Twisted.

"Your attitude was acceptable," Noah said calmly.

"But you talk too much."

He opened a portal casually.

"I'll ask your companion instead."

"Don't worry."

"He'll join you soon."

"But his mind will be... messy."

"I plan to use magic directly."
