Chapter 456 - Chapter 456: I Think You're Brainless

"Noah, did you make the Master angry?"

Mordo chuckled as he watched Noah walk out of the Ancient One's residence, dusty and disheveled.

Noah rolled his eyes, too lazy to respond. He sighed, already certain that his crystal reimbursement was gone.

That crystal had been nearly perfect in quality. Of course, he hadn't paid for it. He'd taken it straight from Tony while teaching him. Tony didn't care. A crystal meant nothing to him.

What annoyed Noah was something else.

When he mentioned reimbursement to the Ancient One, she had calmly said she wanted to see his current level of magic.

Before Noah could even process what that meant, he'd been knocked flying by a spell.

"No," Noah said helplessly, brushing dust off his clothes. "My crystal just didn't get reimbursed."

"Reimbursement?" Mordo stared at him for a long moment, then asked strangely, "You asked the Master for financial reimbursement? What happened to your crystal? Did you give it to her?"

"Yes," Noah nodded honestly. "It had some information recorded in it. That's why I thought Kamar-Taj could-"

"I know why the Master hit you," Mordo sighed. "You're really unfamiliar with your own authority, aren't you?"

Authority?

Noah froze mid-motion, like a jammed machine.

Wasn't he the current administrator of Kamar-Taj?

Even if he wasn't sure, wasn't Mordo the most logical person to ask?

"...Don't tell me I could've just reimbursed it myself?"

"Of course," Mordo said without hesitation. "You're the current administrator. Even I'm under your jurisdiction. You seriously didn't know?"

"Well... I..."

"No need to explain. I understand."

Noah returned to Kamar-Taj with a dark expression.

He genuinely had no face left.

It was too embarrassing.

He hadn't realized this responsibility fell under him. If he'd known earlier, he would never have asked the Ancient One.

At the very least, he would've brought Wong.

The moment Noah stepped out of the portal in the Sanctum, Hathaway leapt onto him, landing neatly on his left shoulder. Almost immediately after, a beeping little figure ran over and jumped onto his right shoulder.

Then Noah had to bend down to pick up Goose, who had already made it to his feet.

"I feel like I could open a zoo here," Noah muttered, looking at the lineup on his body.

"So you know this place is basically a zoo now?"

Wong's voice came from the side.

Noah turned and saw Wong walking out with a stack of books, his expression clearly irritated. That confusion lasted until Noah noticed scorch marks on some of the covers.

He immediately understood.

"BD1," Noah glared at the small robot on his shoulder. "What are you doing scanning these books?"

"Beep, beep."

The robot clearly understood him.

Whether Noah and Wong understood it was another matter.

Fortunately, Noah had the translator Tony had given him.

After activating it, Noah went silent.

BD1 was recording cultural data.

All kinds of it.

BD1 was a droid from the Star Wars world. The fact that Tony had managed to recreate it at all was impressive. And given Tony's relationship with Noah, he definitely hadn't tampered with it.

The fact that this little thing possessed its own consciousness thanks to Star Wars tech was genuinely interesting.

Star Wars droids also had one defining trait.

They never betrayed their owner.

Noah was very confident about that.

He patted BD1's head, ignoring its continued beeping, and looked at Wong.

During this time, Wong had basically been living in seclusion. Whenever Noah wasn't around, Wong handled everything in the Sanctum.

Honestly, Noah felt a little guilty.

Ever since Wong started following him, Noah had mostly been slacking off. Wong worked.

When Noah went out, Wong stayed behind.

If anyone was truly his right-hand man, it was Wong.

"What's it saying?" Wong looked at BD1 suspiciously, then at Noah. "You understand it?"

"Tony gave me a translator," Noah said, pulling out a round device. "This thing. I'll get you one in a couple of days. Then you'll understand it too."

Wong took the device, examined it carefully, then handed it back.

"Not bad," he said. "Just remember to give me one."

"Got it," Noah smiled. "Don't worry."

Then he asked, "How have things been lately?"

"Alright," Wong shrugged with a thin smile. "If you, this annoying fellow, worked harder, I wouldn't have so much trouble."

"Trouble?" Noah blinked. "You look fine to me."

"Fine?" Wong snapped. "What do you know?! I'm buried in the messes you leave behind all day!"

"And you?" he continued. "Running everywhere. Recently you're even 'experiencing ordinary life.' Why don't you try experiencing my life?"

"...Uh."

Noah scratched his head awkwardly.

Wasn't this supposed to be his life?

He sighed.

When Noah first took office, he'd been reliable. Very reliable. But over time, with Wong and Dennis around, he'd gotten used to delegating everything.

If someone else could do it, why bother?

Clearly, Wong had accumulated quite a bit of resentment.

"Forget it," Noah said, shaking his head. "Let's not argue."

"How about this. Next time I go out, I'll take you with me."

"Take me out?"

That only made things worse.

"I'm handling all your work!" Wong exploded. "If I go with you, who's running the Sanctum?!"

"Damn it, why are you making such a big deal out of this?"

"And what about the Ministry of Magic?"

"If we pay attention to them every time, they'll just push further!" Noah snapped. "I think you're brainless, aren't you?"

"Forget these trivial matters. Come out with me today."

"Come out, my foot! I promised the French Ministry of Magic last time-"

"Hey! Hey! What are you doing?!"

Constantine stepped off the plane with a dark expression. Selene followed behind him.

They were at Attalot International Airport.

Jerusalem.

They were here because of Noah's message.

But Noah himself had gone off to "relax" with Wong and had no intention of showing up.

What Noah hadn't expected was that while he and Wong were out all day, he suddenly received a signal from Constantine's bullet.

Noah knew what that meant.

Constantine had been discovered.

By that damned Arab.

Unfortunately, Noah had no intention of heading over immediately.

He was still having fun.

If he was going to go, it would be after he'd had enough.

Aside from Noah, only Constantine was involved in this operation. Fury and the others hadn't even crossed Noah's mind.

Which meant Constantine, who had originally been on a vampire mission with Selene, had been forcibly dragged into this by a phone call.

"This damned vampire," Constantine cursed as he walked. "All he knows is exploiting employees!"

Selene rolled her eyes.

Noah a vampire?

If that bastard were a vampire, would vampires still be in this state? They'd probably be ruling the world by now.

Of course, Selene would never know the truth.

She would likely continue serving under Noah, the so-called Night Monarch.

"Where are we going now?" Selene asked, glancing around, then up at the sun. Her discomfort was obvious. "Please hurry. You know I don't like this environment."

"You haven't been afraid of sunlight for decades," Constantine replied, lighting a cigarette as they exited the airport. He took a deep drag. "Why are you still acting like this?"

"Damn planes. That's why I prefer boats. Damn Noah. I could've been here instantly."

Selene ignored most of it.

Constantine's smoking habit was hopeless. Especially now that he got regular magical treatments. Smoking wasn't killing him anytime soon.

She wasn't afraid of sunlight either.

She'd received her ancestors' blood over twenty years ago. She was completely immune.

But habits formed over centuries didn't disappear overnight.

"Enough," Constantine said. "First stop, the demon hunter club in this cursed place."

He pulled out his phone and started typing.

"I've got a friend here. Years ago, he ran into trouble on a mission in Berlin. I happened to be there. Saved his life."

"So?" Selene crossed her arms. "You're asking him to help find someone?"

"No," Constantine said without looking up. "Finding someone's easy. We'll just follow the magical traces Noah left behind."

Selene stared at him.

"...Why?"

"Are you planning to walk into the desert?"

"Walk... in?"

"I was going to help you buy sun-blocking gear. Camels too. And fresh blood."

"It's too hot. Blood spoils fast."

"As for cold-weather gear, no one cares."

Constantine glanced at her.

"But looking at you... you don't need that, do you?"
