Chapter 453 - Chapter 453: Those Who Will Become the Avengers

To be honest, a smart person gossiping was unbearable.

Tony was undeniably smart. Which meant he very quickly pieced together what Noah and the others had done. Unfortunately, Tony was also a walking "why," and Noah was starting to feel a headache coming on.

Using lifespan to trick Thor had been easy enough. But Tony had followed Noah around for a long time, and Noah hadn't hidden much from him. Because of that, Tony knew perfectly well how Noah handled problems.

If one kind of magic didn't work, he'd use another.

If that still didn't work, he'd just drag the other party onto his side and be done with it.

With the resources Noah had, all of that was completely achievable.

Tony saw it clearly.

Left with no better option, Noah finally told the truth.

The reason was simple. Their personalities weren't truly compatible. From a distance, things were fine. But frequent contact and small disagreements would inevitably lead to problems.

Once Noah explained it like that, Tony immediately understood. He had nothing more to say. It wasn't his business anyway. Gossiping was fine, but prying too far wasn't.

"Alright, enough of that," Tony said, shaking his head with a smile. "What about Fury's ship?"

"What about it?" Noah tilted his head. Then he realized. "Oh. I get it. Money talks."

"You're such a money grubber," Tony rolled his eyes. He turned to the R2D2-shaped robot. "Jarvis, project my designs on the big screen."

"Yes, sir."

Jarvis's voice was unchanged-cold and mechanical, just like Noah's system. But its efficiency was excellent. In moments, multiple Helicarrier designs appeared on a screen that rose from the floor.

Noah didn't understand any of it.

He also didn't understand why Tony was explaining this to him.

So he stayed quiet and waited.

"These are the finalized designs," Tony said, pointing at the projections. "Most are based on old S.H.I.E.L.D. blueprints, plus the information you gave me. You could say they're... combined."

"Combined?" Noah stroked his chin. "Why not design something completely new?"

"I wanted to," Tony said helplessly. "But the cost is too high. And the tech you gave me is tens of thousands of years ahead of this era. I don't have a better way to bridge that gap."

"Fair enough."

Noah thought about it for a moment. That did sound right.

As for what era the Star Wars universe belonged to, maybe even Lucas couldn't explain it. It wasn't his universe anyway, and Noah didn't care much. He'd already messed that world up beyond recognition.

Anakin wouldn't die. Yoda wouldn't either.

He even had a Nightsister apprentice now. And a kid named Cal.

With Yoda personally teaching him for years, and with his own talent, Cal's future strength wouldn't be inferior to Luke Skywalker. Not someone who'd only trained for a few months.

At that point, pinning down an exact era didn't matter anymore.

What mattered was that the timeline and technology there were far ahead of this world.

"That universe really is charming," Noah sighed. "Especially those untouched planets. The feeling is great."

"Too bad you didn't invite me," Tony complained, then continued. "Since we can't start from scratch, combining them is the best option."

He sounded genuinely frustrated. Being limited by the era was something Tony hated. The feeling was awful.

Still, there was nothing to be done.

"As for the weapons," Tony continued, "I originally planned to rely on missiles. But after thinking it through, that won't work. This Helicarrier is meant to face aliens."

Noah nodded.

Missiles were too primitive. Not useless-but insufficient.

Using himself as an example, even if those missiles came at him, a simple magic shield would end it. Or he could open a portal and leave. Slow weapons like that were meaningless against capable enemies.

Aliens who could reach Earth wouldn't be weaker than Noah, but their tech would be far more advanced than humanity's. Relying on missiles was unreliable.

There was also the obvious issue.

The Helicarrier flew.

Unless missiles were deployed in massive quantities, they wouldn't provide enough deterrence or firepower. But filling the carrier with them would be a logistical nightmare.

"It's troublesome," Noah muttered. Then he paused. "You're this invested... don't tell me you're using Fury's Helicarrier as a practice run?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Tony's mouth twitched. "This is called accumulating experience. Experience, buddy. I, Tony Stark, don't half-ass things."

Noah stared at him for a long moment.

Then he smiled and said nothing.

Obviously, that was exactly what Tony was planning.

As for why Tony had dragged Noah into this, it was simple. The technology came from Noah. Without his support, Tony wouldn't dare push forward.

Noah didn't object.

Go ahead and build it.

Maybe someday they wouldn't need to rely on Asgard just to visit unknown alien worlds.

"By the way," Noah said after a moment, "what do you think of S.W.O.R.D.?"

"S.W.O.R.D.?" Tony rubbed his chin. "Oh, Fury's new organization? I'm too lazy to think about which idiot came up with-"

Golden light flickered in Noah's hand.

Tony's scalp went numb.

Someone as sharp as Tony immediately sensed the danger. There was only one explanation.

That name was Noah's idea.

Unfortunately, Noah didn't give him time to react.

In the blink of an eye, Tony turned into a human rocket. His head slammed straight into the ceiling, leaving only his legs dangling helplessly below.

Like a sausage.

Deeply embedded.

With zero dignity.

"Next time you speak," Noah said calmly as he sat down, "use your brain. You never know when you'll offend the wrong person."

He turned to Jarvis. "Pour me a drink. What good wine do you have?"

"Sir, what type of wine would you prefer?"

Jarvis was momentarily surprised, but quickly concluded Noah had no malicious intent.

"Anything you recommend."

"Given that you're from England, I recommend Dalmore 62. A Scotch whisky."

"That one."

Tony was not amused.

He activated his suit's arm, pushed himself free, and dropped from the ceiling. After landing, he checked his reflection, then glared at Jarvis.

"Damn it! Do you know how expensive that is? One bottle costs one hundred twenty-five thousand pounds!" He brushed dust from his hair. "And you-aren't you a non-drinker?"

"I'm not arguing with you," Noah said, taking the glass Jarvis handed him and sipping. "Also, S.W.O.R.D. is my idea."

"...Tony swallowed and ordered the same drink. "A sword-shaped Helicarrier? That's insane. But..."

He paused.

"It's tempting."

"So?"

"What do I think? Of course I'm in. It's troublesome, but this kind of opportunity doesn't come twice."

"And the Avengers?" Noah asked. "You won't be under S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore, right?"

"Of course not. I want them independent," Tony said. "But thinking about dealing with those annoying higher-ups... I'd rather stay under Fury."

Noah lost interest after that.

They chatted a bit longer before Noah decided to leave. He'd come to see his apprentice and check on the factory. Now that he knew enough, there was no need to stay.

"Oh, right," Tony called out before Noah left. "Come to my premiere. I'll save you a couple's seat. Bring your girlfriend."

"You knew about that?" Noah tilted his head. "Did I tell you?"

"I don't know. Should I have?"

"...Fine," Noah said. "I'll be there."
