Ino's target for the "Wedge" was still Kurotsuchi. She had planted a spiritual seed in her long ago, making it very convenient to apply the "Wedge" now. If she were to die later, she could be reborn from Kurotsuchi's body!
With all preparations complete, wearing the scarf and gloves Hinata had knitted for her, Ino, carrying the hopes of the entire village, stepped alone into the passage leading to another King Yama's dimension.
...
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and King Yama's "wormhole" technology essentially fused the two points together.
Ino thought it would be a long journey, but in reality, she hadn't walked fifty meters before arriving in another dimension.
"Huh?" Her first impression was that this dimension of King Yama was very neat and orderly.
Compared to the underworld on her side, one could hardly see any wandering, lonely ghosts here. All the souls were lining up in an orderly fashion. The roadsides weren't lined with crooked-neck trees or the urine-like water of the Yellow Springs, but with what looked like very healthy trees and streams. Of course, an underworld expert like Ino could tell at a glance that the trees were still gloomy ebony and the water was still from the Yellow Springs. However, it seemed they had trimmed the trunks and branches, and the water had undergone some degree of filtration and purification. It looked... less like the netherworld overall.
Ino walked forward alone, carrying her bag.
Something even more astonishing happened: she discovered there were actually underworld staff members here.
Just like those three big fools Tayuya had summoned back then. Those three were demons, soldiers of the underworld.
The underworld staff here were essentially demons as well, but they were wearing sharp suits and ties. A few demons even wore non-prescription glasses. Everything seemed very mundane, completely devoid of an underworld atmosphere.
Soon, "someone" noticed Ino.
A short demon staff member took off his glasses to look, then put them back on to scrutinize her.
For a living, vibrant being to suddenly appear in a world full of the dead was highly unusual, especially when this being possessed incredibly strong life force yet also an extremely dense power of death. This was extremely abnormal within the underworld.
However, this bespectacled demon staff member was indeed well-informed. He walked closer, looked up, and asked, "Which planet's deity might you be? Are you here to tour our underworld? Do you have an appointment?"
Ino: "...?"
The other party made a gesture of understanding: "It seems you don't have an appointment. Sigh, it's not my place to say, but you folks from remote planets really need to be more civilized. Times have changed. Even the underworld needs to be civilized... How about this, please come with me for now. Lord King Yama should see you when he's free."
A minute later, Ino was sitting in the back seat as an underworld staff member drove a small vehicle, like a jeep, carrying her deeper into the underworld.
Ino looked just like a village official visiting the county seat on business, gazing around in all directions, finding everything new and interesting.
The demon staff member had probably seen plenty of "country bumpkins" like her visiting their underworld for study tours, and he was exceptionally practiced in his introduction.
Over here, what you see are skyscrapers, but they're actually a new development by the City God. See that small lake over there? That used to be the Black Rope Great Hell. Now it's the reception area, specifically for housing souls with deep-seated resentment.
"Oh, what an eye-opener!"
"Tsk tsk, this design is really scientific, impressive!"
"Wow, amazing! Your King Yama is truly a genius!"
Ino was full of praise along the way. Everything is relative. In comparison, her underworld was a wasteland. This place was like a city; there was simply no comparison.
Without disturbing the queuing souls, she entered the Ghost Gate through the guest passage. The large "Welcome" sign at the entrance made her look twice.
Very stylish. Ino recalled what the Ghost Gate on her side looked like. Her side didn't even have a Ghost Gate anymore! It had been torn down 800 years ago, and the main gate was still in her possession...
The small jeep wasn't fast. The underworld staff member occasionally asked about her origins. Ino was evasive, seeming to say a lot but actually revealing nothing.
"Huh?" She suddenly pointed to a mist-shrouded path by the side of the road. "Why is there such an abrupt road here? It seems... it seems like you can't see the end of it?"
She noticed this path lacked the aura of the underworld. Where did it lead?
She activated her Rinnegan and looked for a long time but couldn't see the end, only that the path was very, very long.
The demon staff member crossed his arms, looking smug. Giving tours to deities from "out of town" was a regular part of the job for staff like him.
Our status might not be as high as you deities, but our knowledge is ten thousand times greater than you country bumpkins!
"This is a one-million-kilometer-long path called Snake Way. Only with Lord King Yama's permission can one step onto this path to seek an audience with the true ruler of the universe, Lord King Kai!"
Ino (⊙_⊙)!!
King Kai?!
Deity, King Yama, King Kai?
Ino felt as if she'd been struck by lightning. It took a long moment for her brain to process it.
So I'm a deity now? The old king trapped in dire straits is King Yama, and their superior is this King Kai?
The demon staff member was used to the shock on her face. "It's stunning, isn't it? Lord King Yama is Lord King Kai's only disciple, which is why he was permitted to build this Snake Way, allowing him to listen to Lord King Kai's teachings at any time. This is the fundamental reason why our underworld is so powerful!"
Isn't the reason your underworld is so powerful because you have Saiyans in your jurisdiction?
A few thoughts collided in Ino's mind. For a moment, she still found it a bit incredible. Could the reference Master Six Paths used to create the Box of Ultimate Bliss have been Dragon Ball?
She coughed twice to make her voice sound less dry. "...Excuse me, have you ever met Lord King Kai?"
The demon staff member immediately shook his head. "How could a humble person like me ever meet Lord King Kai? Snake Way is a million kilometers long! The winds on Snake Way alone would blow my spirit body apart. Even people from the world of the living would starve to death on Snake Way if they came to the underworld. For countless years, only Lord King Yama has reached the end. The rest of us can't make it."
"Only King Yama has crossed Snake Way?" Ino pressed.
"Of course!"
She couldn't help but ponder. Hasn't Son Goku arrived yet? Hasn't he been born? Or is there simply no Son Goku here at all? Is this another parallel universe?
It was really hard to determine the specific point in time, but she was very interested in King Kai.
Originally, she thought Master Six Paths had left her a huge mess to deal with. She never expected that the old man had actually left her an official position!
The ultimate goal in the universe is a stable government job. Even if the starting point was a bit low, she had at least entered the "system"...
