Permission from King Yama was required to set foot on Snake Way, and this was clearly not the right occasion.
Ino didn't mention Snake Way again. Instead, she followed along for a quick tour before finally heading to King Yama's office.
"What? You've done so many evil deeds? Your wish is to go to hell... Hehehehe, off to heaven with you!"
"No! You bastard! You can't do this to me!"
Just as Ino entered, she saw a dark reddish soul being dragged away by two staff members. The soul was so agitated its spiritual body was becoming unstable, with irregular spiritual crystals constantly precipitating from within it. The two staff members were rough and simple, shoving it into a machine. With a muffled "rumble," a few flashes of white light, the soul was sent to report to heaven in a torn-to-pieces state.
"Next!" a deep voice boomed.
Only then did Ino have a moment to size up this King Yama.
The King Enma from her world had the character for "King" on top of his hat, which was why she teasingly called him "Old Wang."
This King Yama looked much more high-class. He had a purple face and wore a horned helmet with the character for "Yama" in the middle.
Ino was currently 1.77 meters tall, but this King Yama, just sitting there, looked to be 10 meters high. He had a full beard, wore a slightly tight plaid suit with a red tie, and aside from his absurdly burly frame, his attire made him look like a middle-aged office worker about to be sent out into society.
"Hmm, perfectly average. No criminal record, but no good deeds either. Off to reincarnation. Next."
"Another bad one. Send him to heaven! Next."
"Still a bad one? Send him off with the last one. Next."
King Yama was busy! Unbelievably busy!
The Book of Life and Death in front of him was over two meters long, but it looked pocket-sized compared to King Yama's massive ten-meter-tall, ten-meter-wide frame.
King Yama periodically flipped through the records, passing judgment on the souls arriving in the underworld one by one.
It wasn't until a subordinate brought him a hamburger the size of a small calf that he put down his pen and began to eat.
His desk was piled high with documents. On the left corner sat a cactus, and on the right was an old-fashioned telephone.
To his right hand were two stamps.
One white, one black. The white one was the stamp for heaven, and the black one was for hell.
The hell and the underworld here were not the same place; hell was more like a separate dimension with a much harsher environment. Ino's world actually had a hell too, but it had been converted into a lava dimension by Kaguya Otsutsuki using "Amenominakanaka."
This King Yama was quite the character. He sent all the good people to be reincarnated and all the bad people to heaven. As a result, this realm's hell was now almost completely empty.
What was the reason for this? Ino guessed that it was possibly, probably, perhaps to deal with inspections from his superiors.
After King Yama finished his meal, he finally looked down at her.
"And which planet is this deity from?"
That sounded strange. Ino resisted the urge to make a sarcastic comment. Which planet was she from? She didn't even know which planet she was from!
"I'm not sure what our planet is called in the universe. Since ancient times, we've always called the planet beneath our feet the blue planet. We have little land and a lot of ocean."
King Yama flipped through his little notebook. There were tons of planets called 'blue planet' or 'red planet'; they were all primitive civilizations that hadn't left their home worlds. He was in charge of the dead, not planets, so a name was irrelevant.
He suddenly put on a fierce expression and raised a fist the size of a small mountain. "What audacity, trying to deceive me?! You're no deity at all! Let me ask you, a stag is running down the road, getting faster and faster. What does it become in the end?"
Ino answered hesitantly, "...A high-speed buck?"
"Hahahaha—" King Yama roared with laughter, his face radiating a goofy aura. "Not bad, little lady, you've got a sense of humor!"
Ino wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead, feeling a bit of a chill...
Having told his dad joke and feeling the atmosphere was good, King Yama asked about her reason for coming. "You've come from so far away, is there something you need?"
Should she ask for the release of her world's King Enma? Ino felt it would be a waste of an opportunity. She never thought her promises were worth much; she'd even offed a Shinigami, let alone a King Enma.
Should she suggest looking for the Dragon Balls now? She didn't know the specific time period, nor did she know if Earth even had Dragon Balls. On a universal scale, the Dragon Balls usually referred to the ones on Planet Namek, not Earth.
King Enma had been trapped for so many years, he probably wouldn't mind waiting a few more. The shinobi world's environment was already terrible, so a little worse wouldn't matter!
She quickly made up her mind. "Actually, I've come to see Lord King Kai. I wish to study under him as his disciple!"
If the setting were right, she could have even recited a whole speech about "wandering half a lifetime, only regretting not having met a worthy master."
King Yama didn't object to outsiders visiting King Kai. After his bad joke, he thought Ino had a good personality and agreed without much hesitation.
"Hmm, from the looks of you, you must be from a very powerful alien race, right? Since you want to go, then go. But remember..." King Yama's face grew stern again as he raised his mountain-like fist, "King Kai's tests are a hundred times harder than mine!"
Ino: "..."
She suddenly remembered something. "By the way, King Yama... Uncle King Yama, why couldn't I understand my world's King Enma, but I can understand you?"
King Yama laughed heartily. "Because I am King Yama, the strongest King Yama!"
He cupped his hand to his mouth, lowered his head, and deliberately whispered, though his voice was still as loud as thunder: "I bet the King Enma from your world is just putting on an act. Guys with no sense of humor are usually like that, hahahaha—!"
Ino nodded silently, indicating she understood. Any lingering guilt she had about Old Wang completely vanished. Let him hang for another five hundred years.
Leaving King Yama's office, guided by the same staff member from before, Ino once again arrived before Snake Way.
She sensed the area. There was a considerable concentration of natural energy nearby. Anyone else would have a hard time absorbing it, but since she had assimilated a Shinigami, she could freely absorb the natural energy of the underworld.
However, she wasn't sure how long it would take her to cross this Snake Way. Even though she had only been away from home for a day, she felt she should go back one more time.
"I need to go back first. Can I come back later to travel Snake Way?" she asked.
The ogre staff member scratched his head. "No problem. You'll probably need to prepare a lot of food and water, right? I remember Lord King Yama himself prepared tons of hamburgers and cola back in the day..."
After he rambled on for a while, Ino waited for him to shut up before opening the Crossing Moon Bridge and returning to Konoha Village.
The ogre staff member watched her disappear and sighed in amazement. "A spatial ability? This deity is incredible. I wonder what race of alien she is."
