Chapter 40 - 40. A Return to Normalcy

A week had passed since he had seen that mysterious woman and he has been trying to find her to no avail. Her words had been stuck in his head as he would sometimes just stand and wonder what she had meant by that.

But alas, he had no means of truly understanding what she was alluding to. He neither had the knowledge to draw on nor the resources. He wasn't even sure if she had just said that to play some sort of a prank on him, he didn't know if she was telling the truth or pulling the leg.

He had went to the library to find anything that might pretain to the words of the woman but he didn't find anything much to his frustration. So he used the quests as a way to vent out the frustrations born out of his questions.

By this point, the others in the guild became aware of his promotion to a B rank Adventurer and while many were curious about it, some were more than happy to show their displeasure about the fact that an upstart adventurer like him, someone who is younger than then, had managed to rise up in the rankings so quickly.

He remembered what had happened when they tried to give him a peace of their mind. It was the fourth day after he had met the witch, and he was not in a good mood for hearing their jealousy.

Flashback

Rhia was working at her post as she smiled to herself as she compiled some files as the other Adventurers inside the guild building were chatting with each other. Armaros had become a common topic after his promotion to B rank had been known to them and a part of her was happy that he is getting such recognition.

This of course, also caused the adventurers to speculate as to why he would get such a sudden promotion to B rank. And wondered how bad the situation at the village had to be for him to get such a promotion.

But then suddenly a man came flying through the entrance of the guild, startling them all as the adventurers grabbed their weapons as Rhia and her fellow staff became scared as he man slammed into the wall and slid down on the floor. Though that shock changed into disbelief when Armaros walked into the guild while dragging two other people with him before he threw the two towards the man as they screamed before they hit each other.

The others looked at the scene in shock as Armaros has never done something like that as they looked at him as he was glaring at the three Adventurers, as the others had recognised them, whilst they were covering in fear at the sight of the child.

"Next time be nice." Armaros said as he walked to the counter while being watched by the rest as he entirely ignored them all as he went to check the board.

"A-Armaros. Wh-Why did you do that?" Rhia asked him as she was slightly scared as he looked at her.

"These three jerks didn't like the fact that I was promoted to B rank and wanted to reach a lesson to me as my seniors. I didn't like it so I beat them up and brought them here. I probably broke some of their bones so I suggest using healing potions and magic." Armaros said without missing a beat as he went back to scanning the board.

"You attacked him because of that?" A female adventurer asked in surprise and incredulity as she looked at the three.

She wasn't the only one as the other Adventurers and staff were looking at the three beaten adventurers with disapproving stares as they cowered in place. Rhia was especially angry at hearing that as she looked at him in concern.

"You aren't hurt are you?" Rhia asked him as she felt worried for him and grabbed a healing potion.

"Yeah, I'm fine. These guys are not strong enough to do anything to me. In fact they should be lucky I didn't cripple them for life." Armaros said without a change in tone as he picked a quest.

"C-Cripple them for life?" Rhia asked as she stammered as the three Adventurers whimpered.

"Yeah, they were irritating and I was feeling frustrated and had half a mind to just slice of their arms or legs. But I'm not that kind of guy so decided to just keep it to breaking bones." Armaros said as he placed a pamplet in front of her.

"I-I see. Thanks for telling us that, we can make sure that this won't happen again." Rhia said to him as she had to give her word as a member of the guild so that his safety will be guaranteed.

"I hope so. I'd rather not deal with that. I have enough with bandits trying to attack me during quests." Armaros said as he sighed as she blinked.

"Bandits? You didn't take any quests for bandits, and the only time you did was three of them during a quest." Rhia said in confusion as her coworkers were also blinking at that information.

"Yeah well, I tend to run into them while going on my quests. Two days ago, a group of 6 bandits tried to attack me when I was out of the city." Armaros said as she gasped in surprise.

"W-Wait, really? Why didn't you tell me that?" Rhia asked in surprise as she looked at him.

"There was no need. I killed all of them like usual since they were a problem. Also, I need to get started on my quest." Armaros said to her as she looked at him.

"What do you mean "like usual"? How many bandits did you kill?" Rhia asked him bewildered at how he was talking to her.

Especially since he was talking about the killing of bandits so casually. While Adventurers did kill, it was mostly monsters, and even in the case of bandits most would defeat them. Adventurers mostly never killed another human being, and would mostly try to capture criminals and bring them back, it also gives them some extra credit for that as well, as most adventurers focus on monsters.

"Over a hundred if I'm not wrong." Armaros said as he scratched the back of his head.

"O-Over a hundred!" Rhia shouted in shock alongside her co-workers and some of the adventurers.

The three Adventurers paled when they heard that. While Adventurers are no strangers to killing, the ones that they kill are mostly monsters and those who are not human. The rarely kill humans and even if it involves bandits they instead subdued them and captured them, most aren't that okay with killing someone from their own species, only some of the advanturers in have experience in killing other humans and they looked at him, impressed at the amount.

"A-Are you sure?" Rhia asked him as she looked at him.

"Yeah, more or less. While I do encounter bandits when I go in quests, it usually ends with me killing them. Well, most bandits wanted to kill me or something similar so I killed them. As for the bandits that just wanted to loot me, I defeated them and had told you about it." Armaros said to her nonchalantly.

"B-But it's only been a month or so since you had become an adventurer..." Rhia said as she looked at him a bit nervously.

"Oh, I've killed bandits before I became an adventurer, it's no big deal. Can I get started on my quest?" Armaros asked her after he shrugged his shoulders.

"Oh yes, uh, wait a minute. Let me just take a look." Rhia said as she read through the quest before she hummed and gave it back to him.

"This quest is fine. Be safe and could you please not kill humans?" Rhia asked him a bit nervously.

"I'll try. No promises though." Armaros said with a shrug as he grabbed the pamplet and walked past the downed Adventurers.

They whimpered when he walked past them as he didn't even glance at them as he left the guild building as the others watched.

"Well, that kid has more bite than I thought." The B rank Adventuress who had asked Armaros about Stu and his party in the past said with a smile on her face.

She wasn't unfamiliar with killing other humans and she can respect that. And many more who have killed other humans hummed and nodded in approval of the boy's ability to take human lives without much of an issue.

Flashback End

He had went to the church the day after the villagers were brought and he met with the three girls that he had saved from the goblins. They were slowly recovering and were more than happy to see him as they were, for the lack of a better word, clinging to him and he decided to indulge then due to their circumstances.

He also went to see the villagers and their accomodations and he can say that they have been given great places to stay and resources. They are not only helped by the chief, but also given protection by the Church, and since this order was given by the Dawnbringer Clan, no noble or merchant or anyone else would dare try anything with the people, which meant that they were truly protected from dangers as well.

He had also met with the girl he had saved at the village and she was very happy to see him, so happy in fact that she was stuck to his chest and wouldn't let go even as the family taking care of her have tried to pry her off.

He understood that the girl likes him very much and so he stayed there and comforted the girl as the family was quite happy to have their saviour in their home. Apparently saving the girls life makes you the surrogate for her parents, who knew.

He learned that her name is Rosa, named after rose flower. She was an only child of her parents and now that they are dead, she is living with the family who were her neighbours. Of course, when he came to visit the girl was ecstatic as she jumped onto his chest and hugged him with all her might with the brightest smile and didn't let go.

He decided to stay for a while to appease the girl, especially since she had suffered so much due to the attack. He had also went to see her yesterday as he decided to go to the church and to her at the same day so that it will be easier for him.

He had done some quests which were easy enough as he got the money as he was now thinking about what to do after his current quest, which was to help another noble family. He didn't care much about the said nobles as long as they paid him money, though he did stop when he spotted a slave being hit by one of the servants.

The slave has cat ears and tail and she seemed to be a bit younger than he is. Slaves aren't a common thing in the town, but they are present, though due to the fact that this isn't a very large place, there aren't many slaves, and all the slaves in the town are in the hands of the nobles.

'A Therian huh.' Armaros noted as he started walking as he knew that he couldn't do anything to save her at the moment.

The Thiren were one of the races that exists in this world but are rarely seen in the town and around the area. They have animal features and were the equivalent of what were called as beastmen on Earth.

Of course, they also have their one empire and all, but they aren't treated very well in the human empire and most of all of them are slaves and there is some animosity between the two species, though it isn't just towards each other

'Let's just go and complete the quest.' Armaros thought to himself as he shook his head to rid himself of the thoughts as he hoped to find answers for his questions regarding the woman.
