Chapter 41 - 41. Being a Guide

Armaros blinked in surprise as he looked at Rhia who was standing nervously before he shook his head and looked at her.

"I'm sorry, you want me to what?" Armaros asked in surprise as he looked at her.

"I'm sure this is a surprise, but uh, the guild wants you to take in a young adventurer and teach her as a trainer so to speak." Rhia said to him with a smile.

"But, why me? I have never heard of something like this." Armaros said to her in confusion.

"Actually, I don't have much of an idea about that. It just came from the guild master. I think that she is someone important you know. Perhaps from a noble house?" Rhia said to him helplessly as she could only shrug.

"But why would she want me to make a party with her?" Armaros asked her in confusion.

"Well, you are one of the youngest Adventurers here, not to mention the fact that you have also rose to B rank very quickly. That's not something that just anyone can do, perhaps your rapid growth in rank and your involvement in the protection of the village might've attracted the attention." Rhia said to him as he huffed at her words.

"But I can't just take care of a new adventurer, I don't have much experience, and I've only been an adventurer for a short while as well." Armaros said to her as he looked at her.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do anything about it, I can only tell you about it. It's an order from the top." Rhia said to him as she felt apologetic for the situation.

"This was given by the guild master?" Armaros asked her as he wanted to be sure.

"Yes, at least that is what I know." Rhia said to him with a nod as he sighed.

"So she's a girl from a noble family or something?" Armaros asked her as she nodded.

"Yes, I don't think a new adventurer could ask that about it." Rhia said to him as he nodded at that.

Even if he is a B rank Adventurer, he is still a new adventurer who hadn't even been one for half a year, and so he wouldn't normally be recommended to guide a new adventurer considering his age and time as an adventurer.

"How long will I have to teach this girl?" Armaros asked her as he decided to just go with it.

"Um, there wasn't any time limit to my knowledge, but I think until she has enough experience and is able to do her work alone?" Rhia said in an unsure voice as she looked at him as he took a deep breath and exhaled through his nose.

"Alright, let's just get this over with. Where is she?" Armaros asked her as he looked at her.

"She is sitting in a room waiting for you. And don't be too hard on her okay." Rhia said to him with a small smile.

"I'll try, this is a new thing." Armaros said to her as he sighed.

'I just hope that she won't be too much of a problem.' Armaros thought to himself as she nodded to his words.

She got out of the counter and he followed her as she brought him to a room as they walked inside and he saw the girl sitting on a couch as she looked at them and stood up as he managed to get a look at her.

She seems to be around his age and has black hair that reached her waist, fair skin, black eyes, a good face, not too beautiful, but in the middle of it. She is dressed in good clothes, not to the level of nobles now that he looked closer, but it was of fine quality and he can see that it wasn't meant for close combat. The fact that she has a staff in her right hand was more than enough proof that she is a mage.

"Armaros, her name is Shia, she is a mage and wishes to form a party with you. Miss Shia, this is Armaros the adventurer that I was talking about." Rhia said as she looked at the two of them.

"Greetings, my name is Shia. It's nice to meet you sir Armaros." Shia said as she bowed to him.

"It's fine. You wanted me to guide you. Why?" Armaros asked her with an indifferent tone.

'Well, at least he is not hostile.' Rhia thought to herself as she looked at him.

"You are known to be a trustworthy and strong adventurer for your age. Not to mention the fact that you were also involved in the protection of the village that had come into the city. So I wanted to have you been my guide since I am a newbie." Shia said to him with a soft voice.

"And how long are you planning to be under my guidance?" Armaros asked her as he wanted to know that as well.

"I was thinking that two weeks would be fine?" Shia said to him in an unsure tone.

Armaros fixed her with a stare as she looked at him as he was silent as Rhia looked at him.

"Um, Armaros, I don't think two weeks are that bad, right?" Rhia asked him with a smile.

"I guess you're right, and it is from the Guild Master. Fine. For two weeks, you will form a party with me and I will help you become a better adventurer. But that will be it." Armaros said to her seriously as she nodded at that.

"Of course, I will do that. Thank you for agreeing to it." Shia said to him as he waved her off.

"It's fine. Um, Rhia, can you choose a quest for us to do while I talk with her?" Armaros said to the girl as she smiled.

"Of course." Rhia said with a nod as she knew that he wouldn't do anything problematic.

Rhia left the room as he looked at the mage as she fidgeted in place under his gaze.

"Do you have any other supplies other than your wand that can be used for adventuring." Armaros asked her as he stood in front of her.

"Um, I have some healing potions and money as well." Shia said to him as she looked down, not meeting his eyes.

"What kind of magic can you use?" Armaros asked her as it was quite important to know about.

"I can use fire and wind magic, create barriers for protection and enhancement magic." Shia said to him as committed it to memory.

'Seems pretty basic. Well, all the more easy for me since it would mostly be low ranking quests.' Armaros thought to himself as he looked at her.

"Why did you want to become an adventurer? Since this came from the guild master, I guess that you are a noblewoman?" Armaros asked her as he wanted to get as much information from her as he can.

"I'm not of noble birth. Well, I just know a person from a noble family who decided to help me in becoming an adventure." Shia said to him as he raised his right eyebrow at that.

"Why would a noble help you?" Armaros asked in confusion at her words as they generally don't care much about those of lower status than themselves.

"The child of the lord of the house is someone I know and they let me have this opportunity due to how long we had known each other and so they helped me to become a member of a party with you." Shia said to him as he slowly nodded at her words.

"When do you plan on going for an adventure? Right now or later today?" Armaros asked her as knowing about when she plans to do it would be a good thing for him.

"I would like to go right now if possible." Shia said to him in a soft voice.

"Alright then. Rhia should've chosen a quest from us to do. Let's go." Armaros said to her as she nodded.

The two left the room and went to the counter where Rhia looked at them with a smile as she gave him a pamplet as he looked at it.

"This is a quest for clearing out a goblin village. Can you handle that?" Armaros asked her as he wanted to be sure.

"Yes. I'm fine with that." Shia said with a nod as he saw a hint of irritation in her eyes.

He didn't comment on it and decided to stay silent as he looked at Rhia and nodded to her.

"Well, have a safe adventure you two." Rhia said with a smile as the two nodded.

The two left the guild building and then the town as they were silently making their way to the place as he decided to walk.

"Why can't we take a carriage?" Shia asked him as she walked beside him.

"The place is close to the town and I don't want to use much of my money for it." Armaros said to her as he walked.

But it wasn't like he was nonchalant or had his guard down. He is pretty much ready to attack and defend himself should she do anything that might be harmful to him as he doesn't trust her yet. It might not be a good thing to have distrust for others, but he doesn't want to take a risk.

And the two of them walking like this will also help him gauge her physical ability as well and walking to the place is a good way to do so. Noblewomen, especially girls born into nobility, unless they are from a warrior clan, wouldn't want to become an adventurer.

They have money and status which other do not have, and he wasn't going to accept her reasoning of being helped by a member of nobility so easily. He will see how she is during the quest and judge her based on that.

And so they reached the goblin village by walking and he had kept his eyes on her to see how she is doing, and he can see that she isn't that winded, a bit panting but not much. And during the ensuing fight, well she wasn't that helpful as he acted as her guard as she attacked used his spells.

She made mistakes in attacks and was not that aware of her enemies as he had to intercept arrows and also instruct her to use her spells to ensure that she can take out the enemies until it was done.

All in all, she is subpar in the arts of magical combat. She isn't that good, but she isn't bad either, she just seems to lack the experience.

"You did good for your first quest, but you have room for improvement. For the moment, it was fine. Now we have to gather the ears of the goblins and return. You have to do it." Armaros said to her as he looked at her.

"Um, how do we take the ears of the goblins?" Shia asked him as she looked at the dead bodies of the goblins.

Armaros smiled as he pulled out a extra knife that he had bought yesterday, a pretty low quality one that he can use as she grimaced at the sight of the weapon and with the way he is smiling at her.
