Mousesack immediately began summoning all the druids of the island, even those he suspected of being with Vilgefortz, because something very terrible was about to happen.
"What is happening here, Mousesack?" Geralt asked beside him, while the druid made the call and looked at the sky, which was beginning to darken. Nothing good seemed to be coming from this.
"There is only one explanation for this, Geralt. I'm certain it has to do with Yennefer... She took the mask!" Mousesack said with a furrowed brow.
"What mask?" Geralt frowned, not fully understanding what he meant.
"A terrible artifact that was in my laboratory. She must have sneaked in there... How did she even know about the mask to begin with?! But it can only be her to use that artifact!" Mousesack said with frustration, as the weather worsened.
The sea around the island began to stir and, recognizing the point from where all that chaos came, Mousesack mounted a horse and asked Geralt to follow him quickly.
The source of the manifestation came from a grove not too far away. They advanced at a gallop.
Meanwhile, the griffin flew away from the Bear Men's camp. Its occupants looked at the dark sky and against the wind, while Madara, Eleanor and Ciri continued on the griffin's back as it climbed higher.
"He's scared..." Ciri murmured, feeling the griffin quite agitated as they drew closer to the clouds.
"He's not the only one," Madara commented. Eleanor seemed to tremble behind him.
"Really... you're trembling because of a storm?" Madara muttered. She did not answer, only felt fear, as if she wanted to be anywhere but there. To be honest, that scene made it look like the world was about to end.
His red eyes activated, and Madara searched for the source of that storm using the sharingan. However, he found nothing but an unnatural flow of chaos forming, it was obvious that storm was nothing natural and the chaos was responding to it. There was no clear source in those clouds. His gaze turned downward, until he found a point in the middle of the island.
"There!" he said quickly, pulling the griffin, which no longer ascended into the sky, shooting directly toward the source.
At that very moment, nearby, all kinds of druids appeared. Many teleported, while others were still approaching on horseback, unable to use portals. Mousesack, along with Geralt, arrived at that instant, looking worriedly at the sky.
"Attention everyone! I want you to help me try to reverse the situation! This could destroy all the Skellige isles!" Mousesack exclaimed, while the druids prepared quickly, visibly concerned about it.
"We must stop her immediately... Using that mask would cause a great catastrophe!" Mousesack said, while advancing into the forest. Two druids began chanting words in a strange language, their hands glowing as they pointed at the storm.
They advanced into the forest, until they heard an ancient, distorted voice. They found Yennefer in the middle of a clearing, wearing the mask, her eyes glowing green.
"Yennefer, stop this!" Geralt exclaimed.
She continued, ignoring the call. Until, as she kept pronouncing strange words, shadows emerged before her, images mixing like echoes of people speaking while they glowed like phantoms.
Among them was a frail man, but whose figure, even distorted, was recognizable. Madara had already given information about Vilgefortz's current appearance through the Sharingan, giving memories to Geralt and Yennefer.
The conversation continued, revealing that they were talking about an artifact they were seeking, while also mentioning Madara's wedding. Vilgefortz commented that there was something special related to it.
The conversation went on as they spoke of the final details of the plan.
"Eric, I want you to stay in the capital, Ivoti. You will go to Faroe and hide there for the next few days in our hideout. Prepare magical bombs, we must also place them in the castle. We will surprise them," said the mage before them.
Everyone nodded as they began to disappear. In the next moment, Geralt and Mousesack only listened to the conversation, without saying anything else, time was being controlled by the Druids, canceling the imminent destruction of the islands.
At the same time, Yennefer finally began to release the mask. With that, it started to crack and break apart.
Time began to return to normal, and Mousesack let out a sigh, with Yennefer blinking a few times before facing them for the first time.
"Do you have any idea what you've just done?" Mousesack quickly broke the silence as he furiously spoke those words to the sorceress.
A griffin's cry caught everyone's attention before Yennefer could answer. The three looked up at the sky and saw Madara, Ciri and Eleanor approaching mounted on Totó, while the sky finally returned to normal, the dark clouds vanishing and returning to blue with white patches.
Totó landed near them, as the three dismounted. Madara analyzed what had happened, his eyes falling on the mask lying on the ground, it was the Mask of Uroboros. He raised his eyebrow, recalling the mask he already knew from the game.
Either way, his gaze returned to the three in silence.
"What just happened?" he asked.
"That was a great risk taken by Yennefer! One that could have killed us all!" Mousesack said, trying to remain calm as he turned his attention back to the sorceress. "Yennefer... do you have any idea what you've just done?" he said angrily to her.
"I used the mask to find our enemy and obtain important clues," she replied, with no resentment for having used the artifact or even for having stolen it.
"Do you have any idea what you did?" Mousesack repeated, exclaiming, even more furious at the sorceress's indifference. "You could have destroyed all of Skellige! Using that mask is far too dangerous! And, even so, you went into my laboratory and took it! Don't give me excuses, you could have put us all in a horrible situation if it weren't for the other druids, as well as all the islands!"
"Still, nothing was destroyed. And I obtained two important names, along with their locations," she said.
Mousesack was about to retort, but a hand rested on his shoulder. Geralt shook his head.
"I know you're furious with her, but now is not the time. Let's resolve this first," the witcher said in a serious tone, and Mousesack ended up yielding.
Ciri and Eleanor stood by Madara, while the vampire seemed to breathe in relief at the end of the storm.
Geralt waited a few moments before speaking, turning his attention to Madara.
"Did you get any clue about what he's planning?" Geralt asked, diverting the subject from the mask.
"We found a sorcerer behind one of the schemes of the attack at the wedding. They planned to use the Bear Men tribe. We went to them and managed to immobilize them all with ease. We are also investigating who's behind this in the castle. Now... can someone tell me what exactly happened here?" Madara said in a serious tone, clearly bothered by not understanding what had just happened.
He knew about the mask because of the game, but he didn't know exactly why it had been activated, since when Yennefer and Geralt had used it, they could only see images of the past while searching for that other Ciri.
From what he had heard, more than one of Vilgefortz's plans was unfolding, and that was even more irritating. He was waiting for an explanation.
"I used the mask to search for old messages from Vilgefortz," Yennefer began. "I discovered that he spoke with two mages personally. Eric and Ivoti are their names. One is hiding in some building or house in the city, and the other is on the southeastern island."
"Wait... those names... One of them I know. He was one of the sorcerers who attacked me," Eleanor said.
"Seems so. Either way, it's better if we split up," Mousesack said, trying to set his fury aside and focus on what needed to be done there.
"Before that, Ciri, can you get anything now?" Madara asked.
"I can try." She said as Madara took Yennefer's memory and passed it to Ciri. She focused and managed to get better information this time. The difference was that these two, Eric and Ivoti, had met with Vilgefortz personally.
"I see. It's easier if I go to the southeast, and you head to the city. I'll also send a clone to track this sorcerer more easily," Madara said in a serious tone. Everyone nodded, beginning to split up.
"Come with me," Yennefer said as she opened a portal. Mousesack and Geralt followed, while a clone of Madara, created right there, also advanced into the portal.
Madara, Ciri, and Eleanor mounted Totó again, who began to flap his wings, soaring through the sky and leaving Ard Skellige behind.
Yennefer opened the portal in one of the city's alleys. They all stepped out and began advancing toward the direction Ciri had indicated on the map.
"So... how are we going to do this?" Geralt asked, as he saw they had arrived in front of the house.
"Leave this to me," Madara's wood clone replied, disappearing in the same instant.
A moment later, one of the windows opened without making a sound, and a shadow slipped easily into the house. A few minutes passed until the front door opened soon after.
No one said anything, already expecting something like that from Madara. They entered the house, with him guiding them through the place. It looked completely ordinary, like that of a single man, but well-organized and decorated.
Madara went straight to the open trapdoor in the kitchen and began descending a ladder, while the other three followed him.
Down below was a mage's laboratory. On the floor, a body lay unconscious. Madara had taken him down easily upon entering, after discovering the entrance. The sorcerer never even had a chance against a shinobi, even though he realized there was an intruder in his home, it only took a single blow to the head to knock him out.
"Let's tie him up," Mousesack requested, while Geralt picked him up and placed him on one of the laboratory chairs, beginning to bind him.
Yennefer was already investigating what was in the laboratory until she found some letters. Upon seeing them, she realized they were messages, though a bit outdated, showing an ongoing conversation between that sorcerer and Vilgefortz.
In the meantime, Madara slapped the man's face, who immediately began to wake up startled, only to come face to face with two red eyes before him. He had no time to react. His mind was penetrated and, in the next instant, he was paralyzed.
"Now let's begin. State your name and what your relation to Vilgefortz is," Madara said calmly, asking the question to the man bound.
"My name is Eric of Veyran. I am allied with Lord Vilgefortz to restore his power and take control of the entire continent," the sorcerer said.
Mousesack and Geralt exchanged glances, while Yennefer quickly stepped closer, eager to listen. Madara had released enough for everyone to hear clearly, allowing the others to understand what was happening as well.
