Chapter 254 - Chapter 254 - Searching for Vilgefortz 05.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV

Skellige.

...

...

After hearing the sorcerer Eric's confession, who had informed some rather concerning things to the three older people who were there. Since he had declared the plan for dominion over the kingdoms, with Vilgefortz having some interesting things, things that made Madara curious to discover.

In any case, Madara merely nodded upon hearing how Vilgefortz intended to take control of the world. For him, it was nothing but a naïve and foolish desire. Vilgefortz would never have the power to control the continent in the end.

And above all, Vilgefortz would never be able to achieve his ambitions, since he would soon be destroyed. Everything indicated that, by the end of that day, they would already find him with the information they had extracted from Eric.

"Wait here... I'll pass the information to my original while he has to deal with the last trusted sorcerer of that mage, gather more information, and then plan what to do next," said that Madara.

Madara's clone finally began to disperse, informing the original.

Meanwhile, Madara was flying atop Totó with Ciri and Eleanor over the sea, beginning to receive information from that clone and others spread across the island reporting what they had found.

As soon as they arrived at the place, the glyph began descending toward the island once it reached above it. Heading toward a blind spot of the island. There were some villages, but the objective was to go beneath the sacrificial sanctuary, which was on a small mountain, and nearby was the entrance to the hideout they intended to seek. They quickly advanced to that area, where the people performed rituals for the gods of the sea and the storm, according to the customs of the people of Skellige.

They reached this point, and although Madara felt a flow of chaos emanating from the place, indicating that it was a site of power, he preferred to set that aside for now and went ahead to hunt the mage—enhancing the system now would be useless.

Upon reaching the entrance of the hideout, they began crossing traps and barriers once again.

The sorcerer inside the hideout immediately noticed his defenses being destroyed, but had no time to react, for in the next moment, Madara was already kicking his head before he could even perceive how.

When he woke up, he was tied up, and met the same fate as his companion. The Sharingan was the first thing he saw upon opening his eyes, Madara had already plunged into his mind, ripping information out without mercy.

Madara raised his sword, about to cut his throat with his kunai, but Eleanor placed her hand on his wrist, with Madara looking at her with confused eyes. It was obvious that, if Madara didn't want it, the vampire would never have managed to touch him. But he allowed it to see what she wanted.

"Let me deal with him. He and his companion hurt me a lot last time. I want to finish him," said Eleanor, as if it were a request.

Madara did not protest. He had already scoured all the images in the man's mind, obtained details on how to enter the hideout, and even information about Vilgefortz. The sorcerer's fate no longer mattered to him.

They searched for a few more things in the laboratory while the vampire slit the mage's throat, with him bleeding out until death.

With him, they left the place and waited for the griffin to land near them.

"Let's go back. It's better if we teleport," Madara said to Ciri.

Madara simply asked Totó to stay ready to be summoned once more, while the beast ascended into the sky so as not to draw more attention than it already had, since people would see the animal in the sky with the sun still high that afternoon.

Ciri then emitted a glow that enveloped Madara and Eleanor, making them disappear the next moment.

They reappeared in a corner near the city of Ard Skellige. Madara pulled some cloaks from the scrolls to hide their appearances, and they moved through the crowd as they entered the city.

The sound of worried people echoed everywhere: they commented about the storm that had appeared earlier, questioning where it came from and what was happening.

Soon after, the sun returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.

It was troubling, seeing that the storm was anything but normal.

"This seems bad," Ciri murmured. "This could alert our enemie..., right?" She looked at Madara.

"Yes. That will happen, and we need to act within the next few hours. Even more so when he fails to contact his companions..." Madara replied.

He then guided the two to where the other three companions were, at Eric's house, while they used the sorcerer's food supplies to prepare tea and some snacks as they waited.

It had already been more than an hour since the sorcerer had been eliminated, when Madara, Ciri, and Eleanor finally appeared at the door. The entrance opened, and everyone stared at them as they settled in the living room.

"Well, we got his henchmen and scoured every possible hideout on this island. It took the whole day, but in the end, we found his location. Now what remains is to kill him. He is still on this island, and now is the time to claim his head." Madara's voice rang firm, breaking the silence among the group.

No one was surprised by the revelation. No protest arose, no hesitation. Everyone understood the inevitable outcome. Vilgefortz had to die.

"But I would like Ciri and me to handle this alone," Madara added.

"Wait, let me come along!" Eleanor exclaimed immediately. "I need to see him die! He killed my daughter!" she protested.

Madara observed her for a moment and then nodded. "All right, you can come. But I believe that's the most we can allow. It would be better if you all dealt with the rest of the island. Yennefer and Geralt, see who is behind the castle while awaiting the delivery of the wine and the special liquid from the bear-men."

"At the same time, I believe Mousesack should go calm the other druids, who must be in chaos after what happened... and with your disappearance after entering the place where Yennefer used the mask," he informed.

All three nodded, understanding the instructions.

"I'd better return. Yennefer, can you open a portal?" Mousesack asked as she created the portal to return to the previous place.

"We don't need a portal, we can walk to the castle when it's right above us." Geralt immediately protested, already having gotten dizzy before from using the portal that brought them there.

"All right, Geralt," she said and returned to Ciri and Madara. "Just be careful," Yennefer said.

"Don't worry. We'll be dealing with someone without any power," Madara replied with a certain disdain.

"Very well. Let's split up."

In the end, the group divided once again. Madara summoned Totó outside the city and carried Ciri and Eleanor once more on his saddle. The griffin soared through the skies, gaining altitude.

Meanwhile, Yennefer and Geralt set off toward the castle to seek contacts and identify who was behind Vilgefortz. The druids, in turn, would be confronted about what had happened, with the entire island in chaos due to all those sensitive to the energy of chaos feeling what seemed like the end of the world for an instant.

Totó stabilized his flight, heading north. Soon, the tallest mountain of Skellige rose before them: the place where the Sunstone was kept. Inside, in some hidden point, Vilgefortz was already working in his pursuit.

Vilgefortz believed he was close, but could not advance on his own. What he didn't know was that the true danger was approaching at this very moment.

It was already near nightfall when the griffin began to descend, gliding toward sea level after passing the mountain, and started flying over the water, searching for anything along the mountain's coast.

Soon, an entrance appeared before them: a massive cave. Madara scanned the place with his Sharingan and made Totó advance, beating his wings strongly until he landed calmly. His talons echoed over the rocky ground as the group observed the place with an entrance sealed by an enormous gate.

Madara and the others approached the entrance. It was closed.

"We'll find a way in. And if there are magical defenses, this time we'll enter without drawing attention..." Madara's eyes began to shine with the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Vilgefortz, meanwhile, was restless. In his improvised laboratory, he worked without rest, researching temporary ways to open the next doors and overcome the traps of the ancient temple to finally reach the Sunstone.

For days he had dedicated himself to this, progressing little by little, but lately his mind had been tormented. Since learning that Madara and Ciri were together, planning to marry here in Skellige, he couldn't think of anything else.

The boy… the damned boy who had been the cause of his downfall, reducing him to that miserable state for years, was back on the continent. If he had ever truly fled, as Yennefer's reports suggested.

He had always known it wasn't so simple.

Vilgefortz hated him with all his strength. His search had already been growing increasingly frustrating with Madara's disappearance, and when he decided that perhaps he would find answers at the School of the Wolf, his hope was crushed once again. To make matters worse, the king of Kaedwen had changed his mind about the plans laid out after a witcher managed to save him from a curse that had appeared magically in the castle as soon as the first attack was carried out on the School of the Wolf.

His main contact at court had vanished and later turned up dead in the middle of a city of both non-humans and humans. It was also announced that a new group had emerged — the Akatsuki — who began killing humans and non-humans alike, as long as they brought chaos to Kaedwen... This was bringing even more suspicion and frustration.

Vilgefortz hated not having control over the situation. At the same time, he began to suspect that Madara might be involved in it. And he was right. Perhaps the boy had never truly left the continent. Perhaps he had even infiltrated the School of the Wolf all this time, given the connection the girl had with one of its members.

Then Vilgefortz saw an opportunity in the wedding. There, he could catch Madara off guard. Driven by this idea, he contacted allies and those who owed him favors, putting together a simple and brutal plan: to initiate a bloodbath with the help of the Bear-Men tribe, then destroy the castle with magical bombs. Even if he did not kill Madara directly, he would harm everyone around him.

But more than his search for power once again, what drove Vilgefortz was his pure vengeance. His desire for revenge surpassed any other goal. He dreamed of reaching the Sunstone, yes, and regaining his strength, but that was secondary. What he wanted above all was to see Madara suffer.

He wanted to look into his eyes when everything collapsed. He wanted the girl he was to marry to die right before him, on the day of the wedding.

Just as it had happened to him, who had lost everything, Vilgefortz wanted the same for Madara: that he too would lose everything.

And on this day, thinking that his plan was going well, he began to receive strange news. Reports claimed that Madara was in the castle with Ciri, and then the sky had changed in an abnormal way. His contacts warned him about the extreme intensity of that atmospheric alteration, which made a small part of his mind feel uneasy, as if something very serious was happening.

Vilgefortz seemed worried, not understanding the situation. He tried to get in touch with his allies, but suddenly began to lose connection with them all — especially with Eric. Even with Ivoti, his last attempt did not receive an answer. The magical telescope was not even answered.

"What is happening...?" he murmured, feeling the unease grow within him.

As he walked through the room, absorbed in thoughts, he did not notice the shadow moving behind him. He was too distracted to realize the presence that had appeared there.

Had he paid attention, he would have understood the reason for so much internal worry. But it was already too late: the unexpected visitor had entered the place without him noticing.
