Lance pursed his lips, "Then after I finish this task, I will likely face reprisals from the Bay Area, Councilman Williams."
"I respect you, but I'm not a fool."
"If you can't give me some security, it will be hard for me to act the way you want."
Councilman Williams licked his lips, "What do you want, boy?"
Given his age, Lance could indeed be called a "boy," and him using the word was an attempt to close the gap between them.
Lance thought for a moment and then shook his head, "There's a lot I want, but most of it you can't give me."
"Why not tell me what you can give?"
"Maybe you can convince me."
Councilman Williams laughed twice after hearing this, suddenly finding the matter interesting. He no longer saw Lance as just another gang leader, but someone with intelligence similar to his own... well, perhaps not as smart, slightly dim even.
