Gladion looked at the blazing legendary bird and spoke with calm confidence.
With Mega Collosus by his side, his confidence had skyrocketed. He no longer felt pressured.
"Sandstorm."
Collosus lifted one massive foot and slammed it down. A roar tore from his throat. Sand exploded upward from every crack in the mountain. In seconds the entire summit became a blinding desert storm.
Wind screamed at a very high speed. Sharp grains whipped through the air at terrifying speed. The top of Mt. Silver disappeared behind a thick brown wall.
Every flying Pokémon still in the sky screeched in panic. Reporters on their Pidgeot turned and fled. Camera drones spun out of control and crashed. Everyone even a little further away from the battle had to retreat a little further back.
Even Moltres narrowed her eyes and folded her wings tighter as the sand scratched at her feathers. The storm annoyed her, but it did not hurt her. It would limit both her moment and vision though which Gladion wanted.
Gladion smirked. He almost never used Sandstorm in normal Pokemon battles. Collosus was already a monster with his alpha strength and years of training.
Adding the storm felt like bullying. But today was different. They were up against a legendary and every move counted in their survival.
The sand wrapped around Mega Collosus like an extra layer of armour. Its Special defence rose higher and higher because of the sandstorm. Now even legendary fire would struggle to burn through.
It was now tankier than a tank and Gladion was sure that it could tank some hits from Moltres now.
Gladion closed his eyes and felt the link between them. Their auras matched perfectly. They had finally managed to succeed in mega evolution. Latios and Latias help was crucial in it.
Collosus was the only Pokémon who could match his full psychic aura. That was why only Collosus could Mega Evolve with him. Ultron might manage it one day since it was a pseudo legendary and a psychic Pokemon, but for now, this bond belonged to them alone.
He opened his eyes and focused on the fiery shape inside the storm. "Let's bring the legendary bird down a peg, shall we? Collosus, Stone Edge Version Two!"
Collosus roared again. Huge rocks ripped themselves from the mountain and floated high. They glowed white with power. With one swing of his tail, Collosus sent them flying like cannonballs toward Moltres.
She twisted and dodged the first few. Her wings cut through the sand. But the rocks were enormous, and the storm made it hard to see.
One giant stone smashed into her side. The impact sounded like thunder. Moltres cried out and tumbled toward the ground as more rocks continued to hit her.
She spread her wings to catch herself before she hit the ground. Gladion did not give her the chance. "Stone Edge Version One!"
A straight line of sharp rocks erupted from the earth below her. One struck her under the beak and launched her back into the air. A thin line of blood dripped from her mouth. The legendary bird bled for the first time.
Gladion's eyes narrowed with joy. They were hurting her.
Moltres shook off the pain. Rage filled her cry. Flames gathered in her beak, brighter than the sun. She unleashed another Flamethrower straight at Collosus.
Gladion trusted his partner completely. "Iron Defense!"
Metal light flashed across Collosus's skin one more time. It reinforced his defence even further.
The fire hit him like a burning river. The ground around his feet turned to liquid glass. His armour glowed red-hot. He slid backward several metres, claws digging deep trenches.
Steam and smoke poured off his body. He grunted with effort, but he stood firm. The flames could not break through.
Moltres kept pouring fire though, determined to melt him.
Gladion though had other plans. Moltres was not just fighting him and Collosus after all.
"Ultron, Nyx, teleport! Flash Cannon and Dark Pulse point blank!"
Ultron appeared beside Moltres in a blink. Nyx rode on his back, rings glowing black. A silver beam shot from Ultron's arms at the same time a wave of pure darkness burst from Nyx.
Both attacks struck Moltres right under her wing at contact distance. The legendary bird screamed and crashed hard into the ground. The Flamethrower stopped instantly.
Before she could rise, Gladion teleported again. He appeared between Guy and Lee and placed a hand on each of them. Another blink, and the three of them stood directly under the falling bird.
"Guy, four Poison Jabs! Lee, Shadow Punch barrage!"
Moltres hit the ground with a boom. Before she could move, Guy's four fists glowed purple and struck her body in four places at once. Poison seeped into her feathers.
Lee became a storm of punches. Each shadow fist landed with a heavy thud that cracked the stone beneath her. The final punch lifted Moltres off the ground and slammed her back down.
Gladion saw victory close enough to taste.
Then Moltres opened her wings wide. A wave of pure heat exploded outward. The temperature jumped very high. Gladion's skin blistered instantly. His Pokémon cried out as burns formed on their bodies.
Gladion realised that Moltres had used Heat wave and reacted fast. "Defensive moves now! Protect yourselves!"
