The mega Tyranitar revealed itself with a roar that shook the hearts of every living being watching.
Soldiers on the mountain stopped their advance for a second. Pokémon froze mid-attack. Cameras trembled in the hands of reporters who were covering this event.
Even Moltres paused, wings half-spread, and stared at the new creature that now stood tall and strong enough to look her in the eye.
In Moonwood Town, Erza stood near Mt.Moon directing the defence. Her Charizard smashed a rampaging Rhydon aside while she watched the live feed on her Pokédex. When the light cleared and Mega Collosus appeared, her eyes filled with prode.
"So he finally did it," she whispered. "He managed to finally mega evolve and overcame the problems that he were facing. My boy is now fighting a legendary."
Her fist clenched tight enough to shake. "Please be careful, Glady."
She knew the danger. Even Mega Evolution might not be enough against one of the three sacred birds of Kango. But she also knew her son carried the protection of Latios and Latias. That thought alone kept her standing strong while her heart prayed.
Her Charizard gever her a snort. She looked in his direction and smiled, "You are right. Collosus and Gladion managed to fight us to a standstll when you were mega evolved. I wonder how much stronger would they be now."
In Lavender Town, Gwen floated above the Pokémon Tower with her Gengar. She watched the same feed on her own Pokedex. When the transformation finished, she punched the air and laughed.
"That's my brother! Look at Collosus! He's huge! He's beautiful!"
She turned to her Gengar and grinned. "We are next, partner. Soon everyone will see what we can do."
In another location, Agatha and Koga watched the same thing.
Agatha muttered under her breath. "So the brat actually unlocked Mega Evolution."
Koga's eyes narrowed. "He cracked the Kalos secret. Something only their trainers could do during the Infinite War."
They both remembered those dark days. Strange Charizard with black wings. Blastoise with three cannons. Lucario and Gardevoir glowing with power no one understood.
Everyone had called them mutations. Mutations that only apepared with Kalos trainers and Pokemon.
Only later did whispers say that Kalos had managed to find out how to evolve their Pokemon beyond their final form.. The secret had stayed buried until this moment.
Kalos had used this ace with in the infinite war to win various battles. They used it sparingly but whenever such a Pokemon appeared, enemy regions faltered.
Agatha and Koga were the few who managed to find about the name of this strange phenomenon through torturing a Kalos soldier who also only knew its name and not how they achieved it.
Mega evolution
Agatha snorted. "That boy better explain himself after this."
Koga gave a rare, thin smile. "He will demand a high price for the knowledge. And that is. only if he survives. Mega evolution or not, he is still up against a legendary."
Agatha looked toward Mt. Silver. "His chances just went up. And the brat is too much of a prodigy to be fell by a legendary. Send every Aura Guardian the moment their areas are stable. I want them on that mountain."
Koga nodded. "Fuchsia is secure. I will go myself. The boy might need a hand."
Inside the League headquarters, Lance watchdd the main screen. When Mega Collosus appeared, his mouth fell open.
"Is this the Kalos secret the elders spoke about?" he whispered. "A trainer in Indigo has done it."
He felt no jealousy, only excitement. Indigo trainers would grow stronger. The balance of power would shift. He was already planning for the futire of Indigo.
"Kalos will not stay quiet when they learn their greatest secret has been broken. This is our chance to open real talks with them. They cannot act superior anymore."
Across the region, reporters who knew nothing about Mega Evolution shouted into microphones.
"Did Gladion's Tyranitar just evolve again? Tyranitar is already the final stage!"
"I can feel the power from here, and I am hundreds of kilometres away!"
"Gym Leader Gladion has done the impossible! He has evolved his Pokémon beyond what anyone thought possible!"
People in homes, in streets, in Pokémon Centers fell to their knees. Children pressed their faces to windows. Mothers held their babies tighter. Trainers hugged their Pokémon and whispered thanks.
They prayed with everything they had. They praised Gladion's name. A young man barely seventeen years old stood against a bird that could burn cities to ash, and he had just shown the world that Indigo would never bow.
In Viridian City, inside a dark office, Giovanni sat with Persian on his lap. He watched the screen with calm eyes.
When Mega Collosus appeared, he leaned back and smiled.
"So that is your full strength, young Gladion."
His fingers stroked Persian's fur.
"Good. It means you have a real chance to survive today."
He looked out the window toward Mt. Silver.
"You were never my real target with this plan. I will deal with you another day. Right now you are going to remove one of my biggest problems for me."
Giovanni's smile grew colder.
"Enjoy your moment in the sun, Gym Leader. You are doing exactly what I need you to do."
