True to his words, Claude really did not let go. So, we both stumbled when my foot landed on a dead body in a blackened field.
"Oh, shit. I'm sorry!"
My lips instinctively voiced out. I could hear the gushing of blood when I stepped on the abdomen accidentally. And it was because of that that my balance was thrown off, pulling Claude with me.
Fortunately, his reflex was fast. Before he fell, he used his sword as support, so he didn't completely fall on the dirty ground; his body just bent forward.
Unfortunately for me, my knees not only buckled, but my face hit the ground directly, even when my other arm extended and supported me from falling. Now, only the right arm held by Claude was clean from soot and ashes.
"Pweh!" I spat nothing but the smell of burnt field and a few blackened soil.
"Even in these kinds of situations, you're still trying to be funny. How admirable."
