Terrius landed hard on charred soil. For a moment, he could only stare, stunned at the carnage surrounding him. The grass was burnt to the roots, fallen chimneys still smoking in the distance, and soot flew everywhere, darkening the sky.
Bodies of Seekers and Mime soldiers alike were strewn across the field like broken, abandoned dolls. The war that began in the NSA headquarters had continued into this world… and it had already claimed too many lives.
Suddenly, a guttural growl echoed from the far end of the field.
Terrius snapped his head up and spotted a black sphere spinning violently in the air. He didn't need to know what it was—only that he couldn't afford another fight.
Not with Etienne unconscious in his arms.
So, he turned and sprinted in the opposite direction, weaving past collapsed walls and scorched fences until he reached a cluster of abandoned houses. He pushed the door of the nearest house open—it cracked loudly, and he stepped inside, carefully and alert.
