Wallace hesitated repeatedly before finally taking out a Poke Ball and releasing it.

The Pokemon that emerged was a Gyarados.

"Gyarados?"

Wallace's choice left everyone somewhat bewildered.

Gyarados possessed Water and Flying typing, which meant it would take quadruple damage from Electric-type moves!

"Master Wallace, isn't there a better choice? Why did you send out Gyarados?" Phoebe wondered aloud.

"The champion's tactics are beyond what we Elite Four can comprehend," Sidney said casually.

"You understand them?"

"I said the champion's tactics are beyond what the Elite Four can understand, and I'm also an Elite Four member!" Sidney replied with confident logic.

Phoebe rolled her eyes in exasperation.

Glacia and Drake remained silent, keeping their focus on the battlefield.

Once Gyarados appeared, its ferocious expression radiated pure intimidation. Any Pokemon would feel fear upon first encountering it, and even those unafraid would experience some discomfort.

There was no doubt that Wallace's Gyarados possessed the "Intimidate" ability.

"Intimidate ability?" Chris frowned slightly. So Wallace had realized that Zeraora was a formidable opponent that couldn't be easily defeated. He had decided to weaken Zeraora as much as possible at the cost of his Pokemon's stamina, placing his hopes on his final Pokemon.

This tactic was very similar to strategies used when fighting a boss in video games.

"Thunder!" Chris commanded.

Well, he'd gladly accept this Gyarados as his next victim.

"Zer!" Zeraora raised one finger toward the sky.

On the battlefield, brilliant white lightning immediately began gathering in the storm clouds overhead.

"Gyarados, Mega Evolution!"

"Dynamax!" Wallace hastily activated both his Mega bracelet and Dynamax band, realizing this was more than just intimidation.

Gyarados evolved into Mega Gyarados, developing a more muscular build with elongated fins and blood-red streamlined stripes and scales along its sides. Beneath the scales were exhaust vents that continuously expelled white gas, allowing it to float in mid-air.

After Mega Evolution, Mega Gyarados's typing changed from Water/Flying to Water/Dark. Now it would only take double damage instead of quadruple.

Combined with Dynamax enhancement...

In Wallace's assessment, Mega Gyarados probably still wouldn't be able to defeat Zeraora, but surviving the next Thunder attack and delivering a counterattack should be entirely feasible!

Chris also recognized Wallace's intentions. By using both Mega Evolution and Dynamax, Wallace clearly intended to continue fighting.

But... did he really think that avoiding quadruple weakness and gaining Dynamax-boosted stamina would allow him to withstand Zeraora's Thunder?

How naive.

"CRACK!"

Thunder roared as brilliant white lightning descended, like an intensely bright beam projected from the heavens, seeking to purify all darkness and evil.

The lightning struck Mega Gyarados directly on the head, and instantly—

"BZZZZZZT!" Crackling electricity echoed as thunder coursed throughout Mega Gyarados's entire body.

The Dynamax transformation ended immediately, and the massive form collapsed.

Thunder's effects lasted approximately five seconds.

When the white lightning gradually dissipated, only a charred, motionless form remained suspended in mid-air, slowly falling toward the abyss that Whiscash had created. No matter how much Wallace called out, Gyarados showed no response.

Because it had completely lost its ability to battle.

"Gyarados is unable to battle! Zeraora wins!" The referee announced the battle's outcome in real time.

"One-shot knockout? How is that possible!" Sidney was the first to voice his disbelief.

"Even with type advantage, it should be impossible to defeat a Mega-evolved and Dynamaxed Gyarados in a single hit, right?" Sidney couldn't comprehend what had happened.

Phoebe, Glacia, Drake, and even Wallace struggled to understand as well.

Yet the evidence lay before their eyes.

Could it be that Zeraora's individual strength had reached a level beyond ordinary Pokemon, possessing power comparable to those Pokemon revered as "gods"?

If Chris knew their thoughts, he would probably burst out laughing.

Zeraora rivaling the gods? That was premature. It was currently only Level 85.

Pokemon called gods, like Groudon and Kyogre, had presumably already reached the maximum Level 100.

Even the Landorus he had encountered in the ancient forest, which possessed "Landorus's Treasure," should have been at least Level 90 or higher.

If Zeraora wanted to challenge the gods, it should reach Level 90 first.

The key to one-shotting Mega Gyarados lay in the "Zapdos's Treasure" that Zeraora carried.

Zapdos's Treasure: The power and range of Electric-type moves are doubled, and every minute, the power and range of the next Electric-type move are doubled again.

Originally, it would have been double super-effective damage, but with Zapdos's Treasure, it became quadruple damage.

Moreover, this was Zeraora's first Electric-type move in this battle, so the power doubled once more.

Sorry, but that meant eight times the normal damage!

Not to mention Zeraora was Level 85.

Even if you reduced its level by twenty, a Level 65 Zeraora could still knock out Wallace's Mega Gyarados.

"Wallace used Gyarados's Intimidate to reduce Zeraora's attack power, and the intimidation will also halve the damage of Zeraora's Electric-type moves for the next minute. That's quite profitable," Chris muttered to himself.

Unfortunately, Wallace didn't understand the effects of Zapdos's Treasure.

Zeraora's Thunder had nearly shattered all his confidence.

He couldn't think of which among his remaining three Pokemon could possibly withstand such a Thunder attack. Especially considering it was still raining...

"Trainer Wallace, please release your Pokemon as soon as possible," the referee reminded him. One minute had passed since Gyarados's defeat. If Wallace didn't release his next Pokemon soon, he could be penalized for lack of fighting spirit and forced to forfeit directly.

The four Elite Four members also turned their attention to him.

Wallace snapped back to reality as if awakening from a dream.

"I cannot betray the trust of my old friends. Even if I lose, I will deliver a performance worthy of a Contest!" Wallace took a deep breath and spoke to himself.

He was rallying his courage, ensuring he wouldn't lose even the will to fight.

He reached out and took another Poke Ball from his belt, releasing it.

Wallace's fourth Pokemon was a Level 92 Starmie.
