"So why'd you suddenly show up? How did you find me?" Adeline asked as she checked the hallway for stragglers.
"One of the prisoners found me," Layla explained, pushing off the wall. "She said you were fighting alone, so I ran here as fast as I could."
Adeline blinked, then smiled faintly. "Thanks."
"Duh. What else was I going to do? Let you hog all the fun?" Layla grinned.
Adeline rolled her eyes, but the gratitude in her voice was clear. "No, seriously. Thank you."
"Where's Aaron?" Adeline asked after a pause.
Layla's expression turned more serious. "He's with the prisoners. There are around a hundred of them, and he can't get them out—we are surrounded by monsters. He's protecting them now, but it's only a matter of time before the others find him."
Adeline's grip on her sword tightened. "Then we move. Fast."
