He screamed, his body shaking as the holy power neutralised his magic. She walked up slowly, lightning crackling at her fingertips. He tried to curse her one last time, but her second blade cut through his neck in one clean motion. His body collapsed—and disintegrated.
Adeline stood there, breathing heavily but steady. Five down.
Then she heard it.
A low rumble.
Boom.
The barrier behind her shuddered.
She turned. More masked men—dozens—were crowding the hallway on the other side of the wall. Some were throwing everything they had at her holy barrier: fire, black mist, spikes of bone and shadow. Others were chanting in groups, trying to undo the magic from the outside. The glowing wall flickered slightly, like a candle in a gust of wind.
"Tch," Adeline muttered under her breath. "Of course they'd bring reinforcements."
