The echo of boots hitting stone filled the cavern as more men flooded in, their torches and weapons glinting in the dim light. Adeline groaned under her breath."Of course, there's more of them," she muttered. Obviously, they did not kill nearly as many mages as she saw in the grand hall.
Aaron took a step forward, sword raised. "We'll hold them."
"No," Adeline cut in, already turning toward the tunnel leading upward. "You two hold them off long enough for me to get the others out. My holy power's the only thing keeping those monsters outside from turning this rescue into a buffet."
Aaron frowned. "You'll be alone out there."
"I got this."
Layla nodded, looking serious for once. "Go. We'll keep them busy."
Adeline gave them a quick nod and ran toward the stairs after cutting through the crowd of prisoners. The sound of spells and swords clashing echoed behind her, but she didn't look back. Hopefully, those amulets she gave them would protect them.
