The [Elemental embodiment] traits were actually drastically scaled down versions of my own [embodiment of destruction] trait but specific to a single element and without as much utility. I imagined that if I were able to upgrade the traits a bit I could create "pseudo sirens" that had full elemental powers but that's it. To anyone not aware of the deeper nature of siren powers it would seem like the same thing but in truth it wasn't. It's the difference between knowing what a dictionary says compared to being the one who wrote the fucking thing.-
Similar at first glance but the second of those have FAR more significance overall. In this case the elemental traits were tapping into the universal concept of destruction in a tiny way compared to literally possessing it like a true siren. Anyways that was merely a thought of mine as for now I had no intention of creating such a creature. Interestingly though [Solar respiration] wasn't a standalone trait like I thought when I integrated it shortly after acquiring it. In fact it actually fused into my [Demigod body] trait. -
This caught me off guard as I simply saw no real connection between the two until after they fused. To put it bluntly a true demigod or even god could survive in environments that for nearly all other beings would prove lethal. [Solar respiration] granted an aspect of this as even without an atmosphere you could "breath" so long as there was solar energy. Still this barely changed anything for me except removing my need for an oz kit attachment to my shield. Useful to a degree but that was it. I had to admit that being divine or even partially so was an incredibly broken state of existence though, full of unfair advantages. -
While I was sunbathing on the hood of my ship floating in orbit around Pandora life moved on for everyone else. Mordy was starting to date Moxxi seriously while Scooter kept an eye on him so he didn't go and pull a Lucky. Scooter trusted his mom to handle her business but no good son wouldn't keep an eye out just in case. I was told about this by Scooter himself who wanted to make sure I wouldn't get involved if things turned nasty between him and Mordy.-
I made it clear though that so long as there wasn't crippling or death involved I wouldn't interfere. Both were my friends and if they turned on each other I couldn't take a side without betraying at least one of them. That said I also wouldn't stop them from solving this problem in a way that might hurt but not cause too much damage. Still I trusted Mordy to know better than to do something as terrible as abusing Moxxi like that. Meanwhile the league was rapidly growing as the now several examples of ascended midgets were seen by the other bandits on Pandora.-
It hadn't fully devolved into a straight up murder and death cult yet with these new additions but the pile of bodies belonging to "heretics" was growing by the minute. Not normal people, only bandits but the line was rather blurry between the two on Pandora. Bandits were an odd bunch as some could prove downright terrifyingly loyal while others were just as likely to treat you like a genuine friend before turning around and eating your liver the next second. In the same way even with a whole heaping pile of evidence saying that yes I was real and yes I could give power to others there was still plenty of bandits who said I wasn't real.-
For those who hadn't seen me in the league this seemed like a good argument but the ones who had? Blasphemy. I didn't really care though as long as they didn't go getting any funny ideas like sacrificing whole towns of normal(by Pandora standards) folk to me. Still I was keeping an eye on the league as even I thought it was growing a tad bit too fast. Soon enough though Roland and Lil chose to take a sort of vacation to the moon city of Concordia, the old Dahl space port.-
I meanwhile chose to just relax outside Fyrestone for the majority of my time while I waited for Atlas to finish crumbling. The stock price of the company was in a freefall but still by no means cheap enough to outright buy the company yet. Well not for a price that would make doing it a good idea anyways. The other corporations were probably just happy to see the market open up more as there was one less competitor.-
While I relaxed I catalogued and sorted the information on the Eridians I got from Hyperion into three categories. The first was shit I already knew and a good seventy percent of it fell into this label. The second was conjecture or guesses without solid evidence and took up another twenty percent. The final ten percent was the real prize as it was the unique insights and knowledge that was verified by Hyperion along with the evidence documented. From it I learned that the destroyer was apparently recorded in several other places by the Eridians and even the "feeding window" nature of the vault we opened. -
'So that's why the traits I got from the body were incomplete.' I thought feeling enlightened.
The vault we opened was only large enough to allow a single "mouth" of the monster that was the destroyer into our dimension from the prison dimension it was trapped in. The "body" I took the trait from was merely a part of it's full being and one cut off from the main thing to boot so it's traits were incomplete. Ironically that vault was a purposeful trap set by the Eridians to keep the beast mollified and settled in it's cage with a few morsels of "food" every two centuries.-
When we denied it that food the beast rebelled and it's thrashing is apparently what caused the Eridium to shift out of the planet. According to the data anyways. Unfortunately there was only a brief mention of the great vault in the data so I barely got anywhere on that front. It was annoying how clearly important the thing was for how little information could be found on it. Still I was satisfied with trading the eye for the data in the end as it gave me even more of an edge in the field.-
Eventually I'd fully unravel the secrets of this alien race and make their legacy and knowledge fully my own. A nice long term goal to chase for now, just what I needed.
"You not gonna make any more guns or gadgets?" Brick asked me one day as he lounged next to me on a lawn chair with a barrel of iced tea, and a straw.
"I will eventually but i'm taking a break, relaxing." I said casually.
"Alright." he accepted without any trouble at all.
I couldn't help but appreciate the muscle brained man all the more for it. He didn't complicate things unnecessarily. I said I was taking a break and he just took that as is. That was the end of the matter as far as he was concerned. Really that kind of straight forward mindset was the most relaxing to be around, so long as you weren't in it's way that is.
