Chapter 3 - Family Dinner!!

"Hi, I'm Kinn. Mrs. Morrison must have told you about me," Kinn said, hiding his face.

Meg handed over the report to Kinn without even raising her eyes and left. Kinn didn't get a chance to even thank her. He could have been happy that Meg didn't notice his face, but that was not the case.

"Are you going to stand there forever?" said Peter. "Come on in."

In the evening Kinn and his friends were playing basketball when he got a phone call from his mother reminding him to be at home before 6. They were going to have dinner with Eric's future in-laws. Kinn annoyingly throws away the ball, murmuring, "Seems like everything's going to happen today."

"Aren't you joining us for the match?" Peter asks, but Kinn gestures in denial.

"What happened?" Allen follows Kinn.

"I forgot the family dinner with Eric's in-laws."

"Are you sure you are going with this face?" says Peter, staring at his face.

Kinn knew he had no other choice. Even though Eric is his elder brother, he treats Kinn as his best friend.

"I'm off for the day."

Kinn reached home and saw his mother waiting anxiously. Kinn knew his father would tell him off. There is nothing he could do now. He hurries to his room, but Mr. Harley asks him to stop.

"We are getting late. Let him get ready first," interrupts Mrs. Harley.

Eric pushes Kinn to get ready. They talk as Eric helps him get ready.

At the restaurant, they are directed to the room where the Brontë family is waiting. They are meeting to finalize the engagement date for Eric and Iva. Mr. Bronte and Mrs. Bronte are curious about Kinn, but Iva gestures to ignore them. The whole time Kinn was sitting there, he was trying his best to hide his face. Luckily, no one questioned him.

When they were leaving, Kinn thought he saw Meg there. His eyes were searching for Meg but couldn't find her. Kinn reached home and saw his dad waiting for him to explain what happened to his face.

"What should I think happened to you today? How many times did I warn you? Have you ever tried listening to me?" His dad, almost at his wit's end, hardly managed to stop himself from hitting Kinn.

"I was helping Mr. Steve," murmured Kinn.

"Helping? Who do you think you are to help everyone you see? You helping others will land you in trouble someday," yelled his dad.

Before Kinn could say anything, his mother stopped him. Kinn looked at his mother and then rushed furiously to his room.

Kinn's mother has always found herself in a dilemma whenever Kinn and his dad quarrel. However, each time, she finds herself siding with her son. A mother's love outweighs her love for her husband, but Mr. Harley never asked her to choose him or stop defending her son in everything.

Although Kinn's father is strict with him, he has always permitted him or anyone else to express their love for Kinn. However, this does not mean that he will not intervene when necessary.
