Chapter 265 - Chapter 264 - All the Events Involving Severus 03.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Ministry of Magic.

...

...

"Well, we can start now with the questions that everyone here is interested in asking..." A man began as soon as everyone fell silent.

Then, he continued. "First thing I want to ask you: when you say you first stood out during the attack on Hogsmeade, was it purely for trying to stop the dark wizards who were attempting to torture students, correct? We want to know if that is truly your motivation or if you have other reasons — like perhaps, a thirst for blood."

The person who asked was from the ministry's high ranks, and his question was biased, with the local reporters quickly scribbling into their books upon hearing it and waiting for Severus' response. The aim was to put him in a tight spot.

Severus remained calm in the face of it, and even scoffed before his voice broke the silence.

"I know killing fifty people seems like the act of a psychotic madman, but I did what had to be done. They were students who didn't even know how to defend themselves and adults who wanted to hurt them precisely because of their birth — which is utter nonsense." He finished and turned his attention back to the man.

"Tell me something, sir... What makes you better than a Muggle? Do you believe that only because you came from a pure-blood family or were both your parents wizards, I presume?" he asked the man, judging by the way he dressed — basically belonging to one of the old families — and, in turn, launched a biased question of his own. They might be angry at Severus after he took down the Death Eaters.

"Of course we are superior." the man admitted proudly, without even seeming to think much before answering.

"I see. So this is about blood purity? If you were born a Squib, would you still be better than a Muggle?" Severus asked again, while everyone looked a little surprised at his questions. Even Dumbledore raised an eyebrow, sharing the same gesture as the Supreme Chief.

"What is he doing?" murmured Astraea Black's son — at least the one who hadn't betrayed Severus and his mother —, being Sirius and Regulus Black's father.

Astraea didn't know what to say, but she knew where Severus was leading her. She had her own prejudices, she couldn't deny, but Severus had threatened that this nonsense about blood purity needed to end, in one of their last conversations.

"Of course there would never be Squibs!" the man targeted by Severus' questions said. "After all, he belongs to one of the old families, and we don't produce mistakes." he said, lifting his chin, while Severus smiled.

"I can imagine most of you agree with that thought. You know there have been many Squibs throughout history... So don't come to me with that kind of nonsense..." Severus said, leaving everyone uncomfortable.

"Pure-bloods don't produce failures!" the man shouted.

"Nonsense! I have this book right here." Severus said, and a book appeared in his hand out of nowhere. Pulling it from the system, having placed it in his personal inventory precisely to use it when it would be convenient in front of everyone there.

"I want you to read carefully, there is a series of Squib births between 1860 and 1890. It's a very difficult book to get, after all it was banned from Great Britain because a group of pure-bloods didn't want information about Squibs from their families circulating around, besides undermining everything they believe in the pure-blood cause... But I have my contacts. Read it for yourself." Severus finished, and with a gesture the book began to fly, wrapped in a blue energy, soaring toward the stands where the man was, stunned by it.

Severus looked at everyone in the upper stands. "And while he begins to read about nearly 1000 Squibs that pure-blood families produced in 3 decades, let me say something." He paused.

"I was once like you, I admit. I once felt anger toward Muggles in general and blindly believed in the ideology of blood purity. I certainly got involved with the children of Death Eaters at Hogwarts, associating myself with the pure-blood circle formed in Slytherin, and I wanted to be a Death Eater."

"I hated my father and everything he did to me until I was over 15... he always belittled me and made me suffer. I hated Muggles, hated that most of them were like my father... So I wanted to be part of something important, the Death Eaters always seemed like an idea of greatness to me... But something changed in me since the beginning of last year. I realized that this was not the path I should follow. That's why I threw all this nonsense away. After all, Muggles don't deserve extermination just because they weren't lucky enough to be born with magic or came from non-pure-blood families like many pure-blood wizards do." He paused once more as the whole place fell silent.

"Tell me: if you are so important and superior as you say, why are you only a small minority in the entire world? I don't believe anyone has calculated this, but in my view, I have been researching this in recent months: a wizard is born for every 10,000 people, whether Muggle or not... Wizards are 0.1% of humanity!" Severus hadn't finished, while people were already starting to argue back somehow across the place. But he cut them off before they could continue.

"You really don't understand how the Muggle world works. They are superior to you in many aspects, but the greatest one is the military. You may be able to control one thing here and there, your powers may even seem incredible before those without magic, but, in general, Muggles have the power to wipe out entire cities, while you can only deal with a group of people using killing curses. The power of the Muggles is far greater than yours in this era, and the war that Voldemort wanted to create — killing and kidnapping Muggles here and there throughout Great Britain — would eventually explode in the Muggle world."

"Muggle missiles and artillery could simply wipe us off the map, even if their cities were taken with them. Most wizards are blind to this... If they saw other choices besides exterminating us, this whole pure-blood thing would be worth nothing and all of us, without exception, would be exterminated. Voldemort wanted to exterminate Muggles from the world or make them slaves, and many pure-blood families agreed with that, believing purity would take them somewhere. The result would only be the destruction of the entire world."

"And if you are asking why I killed several Dark wizards, many pure-bloods, without hesitation, I say: I do not regret it. I do not regret it because, for the good of the wizarding world and even the entire planet, their lives are worth less than pests that must be exterminated. Exterminating them means preserving the world, preserving the other wizards, preserving the magical world as we know it... You want a war you cannot win and that would drag us all into the abyss. The Statute of Secrecy is not to protect Muggles; it serves to protect us." Severus finished his speech, but still continued giving his final conclusions.

"Those idiots simply wanted to declare war on Muggles, while Russia and the United States were still loaded with nuclear weapons from the Cold War. They could simply use them and turn their missiles back toward Great Britain — and even if all the Muggles would be exterminated if it meant killing wizards, if the leaders thought it was worth sacrificing the non-magical."

Looks of outrage sprang up quickly at such absurd words; they would never accept being seen as pests who should be sacrificed by the rest of the world.

And that was what that Dark Lord said: there had never been a Dark Lord who did not want to eliminate Muggles. Now there was a Dark Lord who wanted to exterminate pure-bloods — irony of fate.

"Anyway, that is my answer. I did not do it out of sadism, but, as our old headmaster would say..." Severus said, looking with a bit of disdain at Dumbledore. "All of this is for a greater good."

Dumbledore showed little reaction beyond a calm look at Severus; he hid any expression well, Severus understanding that the old man was raising his Occlumency shields at that moment to keep his face calm.

Severus returned here. "If you are going to ask more questions like that, you already have my answer. I killed all the Death Eaters to protect the world, because those people are pests, pests that would lead the world into a chaos that would bury all the wizards of the world, pure-blood or not." He concluded.

The Supreme Chief stared at him, seeming to keep calm with effort, before sighing. Around her, some cursed Severus, others looked at him with a certain fear.

"I heard you're fanatical about that pure-blood thing." Rosária did not fail to comment, beside Bellatrix. "I honestly don't know why he saw something in you. You are of that disgusting sort."

Bellatrix mocked Rosária: "Look at you — all pompous, people used to say, young lady here, young lady there, wanting to do you favors, while you only hang out with pure-bloods and with that handkerchief on your nose. At the same time, you come from a more prestigious family than mine."

"Don't believe that." Rosária retorted. "People come to talk to me; besides, I'm half-blood, as you know. Don't come at me with that nonsense."

"Order! Order!" The conversations were interrupted when Vicência's gavel struck the podium.

"Let's leave our opinions for the end of the trial. We still have some important matters to discuss." she said, grabbing more papers.

"Now, regarding the portraits: I wanted to know, Severus Prince, why you manage to enter portraits, making the frames quite upset about it, but disappear for hours, sometimes days or even months?" she asked, referring to what happened at the Durmstrang Institute.

"What exactly happens in the portraits? Why are you being accused of invading properties of prestigious families, precisely to enter their portraits? Besides what Rosária said..."

"Well, when I said 'to steal', it doesn't mean Severus took it — Daddy's portrait is still there, in my father's castle." Rosária defended herself quickly, not wanting to accuse Severus of theft.

"So the issue here is not theft, but certainly even magical painters were frightened about their businesses losing market when there was a mysterious man breaking into properties to enter the portraits. Many people got rid of their portraits because of these reports." she continued.

"Explain exactly what happened inside those portraits and why you are the only one who can do it. Besides, how did you discover this?" she asked, while everyone in the stands, without exception, stared at Severus with intense looks, wanting to know how he did it.

"If you really want to know, I will tell you." Severus replied, before everyone, while they digested the answer. "The portraits I enter are portals to other places — more specifically, to dungeons."
