After stepping out of the cave I took a deep breath, being in the open was always nice. Which is Ironic given that I chose to live in a skinny little tower instead of a grand palace. But being outside was not much better right now, given that the woods were strangely suffocating and bland. I heard a twig break and I looked over. Someone stepped out from behind a tree. Then 3 more. The person, or rather, infernal, that stepped out first was the guy that I mistakenly called a demon at the guild building. "Took you long enough," The infernal said in a gruff voice. "Did what I say really offend you that much to come and attack us, and if I did, why did you not attack us in that dungeon?" I asked amusedly. "You're mistaken, If I wanted to attack you I would have done it when we first met, also to ease your naivety, it's impossible to enter a dungeon when another party is in it, and before you ask, there's always a red indicator outside, this time that statues orb being red told us that we would have to wait," He informed me. "What does the green mean then," Kevin interjected. "It means that you have successfully conquered the dungeon," the Infernal said. After a brief pause I asked "Why are you here then," "Just to spread the word about the demon army, they're wanabie revolutionaries that want to go back to the old ways. They may try to approach you, but be wary, they are just a bunch of criminals and thieves," "oh? Why come all this way just to tell us that?" "Well, didn't want to give you a bad impression of the infernals, and to tell you to report any demons you find, you should usually be able to tell pretty easily" And with that, he turned and waved his men to follow him. "Wait" I called out, "What do you mean it should be easy to tell when someone is a 'demon'," I asked. "Well," He glanced around in disquiet, "they usually look like a lion or eagle or some creature akin to that, Is that all" "yes," He nodded his head and left.
"Well that was weird," Kevin said. "He looked kinda like a weasel," he followed up with. "Something like that," I said. "Should we keep exploring?" Kevin asked. "Why Not."
After wandering through the woods for a bit, and killing some bears with my superior artistic talent, I felt that same gaze from when we were heading towards the dungeon once more. And this time it felt like they were closing in on us. "Kevin, I think there is someone coming," I whispered."You think it is those weasel guys from earlier?" He whispered back. "No, remember when I ran off trying to find the person looking for us? I think it is them," I said. "I thought you were just schizophrenic," Kevin said. "What does that even mean… they are here," I saw that I was not wrong as a few infernals dropped down from the treetops. 'These must be the demons we were warned about…' I thought. 5 demons with the heads of lions stood facing us. "Come with us nicely and we won't do you much harm infernal spies" spat the leading demon as he brandished a blade at us. 'Wow, these guys really are not nice, but we are no spies, I wonder what gave them that notion' I thought, "Are you a spy, because i'm not," Kevin whispered, "no," I whispered back, "exactly what a spy would say" he replied "oh shut up," I said muttered. "Looks like you're not going to make this easy for us," said the leading demon. 'I forgot about this guy already,' I thought as I narrowed my eyes.'I do not think it would be wise to take them on with my current strength, and the two in the back have bows and the other three seem pretty strong, hmm…' "I Never said anything about making it difficult, plus we are not spies and we have no idea what you are talking about," I said. "That's what they always say," said the demon… and Kevin again. We both looked at Kevin. "Look you can even search us if you want," I said in mild exasperation. "We already know that you have a few things, one, a note from one of our agents, two, the sign of spies, the tip of a goat's horn!" the infernal said with a piercing gaze. 'I think he's talking about that thing we got from that guy we apprehended on the first island that we kept for some reason. And obviously that encoded note from the dead guys that we found on the way here...' I thought. "'We will give you the letter if you want, we just stumbled across it," "and you killed one of our agents while 'stumbling' did you?!" "When we came across the scene it was already too late and any aggressors had left," I fumbled around and pulled out the letter before presenting it to the demon. After grabbing it he looked at the contents and nodded. "Well, if your story is true then you should have no problem coming with us to set everything straight," He said. "Put these on," He threw two burlap sacks at us. "So that you don't see where we're going."
Walking with no sight was a challenge unsurprisingly. After what felt like a few hours of traipsing through fallen branches and shrubbery, I felt myself walking down stone steps and out of the forest finally."You can take the bag off," I heard someone say, but it did not sound like the lion demon that I was talking to earlier. My eyes adjusted quickly after taking the bag off. The area that I was in was not too dark, as there were torches casting a faint orange light over the room. The one annoying thing was that I was now in a cell. And Kevin was not in sight, I presumed that he was in a cell somewhere else. "Was this really necessary?" I asked. The demon proceeded to walk out of the room, closing a red wooden door behind him. With not much else to do I sat down. The cell was barren, it was just a cold stone room with bars covering the whole opening. In front of the cell was a table and chair, presumably for questioning. Breaking out could be fun, but I was curious to see where this would lead us. 'I wonder what the 'old times' that the infernal mentioned could mean,' I thought. 'And the sign of a spy, why did we even keep that goat horn,' I sighed. 'I should get a new brush and paint or something, maybe clay, I think people consider ceramic ware and the sort art, but how is that going to do anything… So far it just seems like art is magic with a weird power source, and-" Someone walked into the room. This demon had the head of a sheep and was covered in wool. "I thought demons were meant to be lions and stuff," I said. "I think what the infernals are doing is foolish, that's why I side with the demons," he responded. "What are they d-" "Just answer the questions I ask you," He pulled the chair back and sat down. "What were you talking about with the demons at the entrance to that dungeon" was the first of many, many questions. By the end it started feeling less like an interrogation and more like an interview. I was considering melting a hole above me and climbing out of the cell when he finally stood up and walked out.
