The patience towards Sharry Vaux was nearing its limit.
"Mark, don't leave me." Sharry Vaux grabbed Mark Reed's sleeve and pleaded pitifully, "The baby is gone, now I only have you. Please don't leave me."
"Take care and rest well. I'm heading to work."
Mark Reed gently pushed away Sharry Vaux's hand, tucked the corners of her blanket, and turned to leave the hospital room, not caring whether she would be upset.

Out in the corridor, Sharry Vaux's faint calls could still be heard.
Mark Reed involuntarily quickened his steps, as if a ferocious flood or beast was chasing him.
Once out of the hospital, Mark Reed finally mustered the courage to call Claudia Ross.

Watching her be scolded online, harassed by both his and Sharry Vaux's parents, he felt deeply sorry for her.
