I'm a little surprised to see Roland come back this early in the day. Usually he's been gone until night.
But today, he's here.
It could be that he's just worried about May, under all that gruffness I know what a softie he can be when his heart's melted, and May's certainly one of those who's melted it. Or maybe he has a lead worth reporting back.
Or it could just be a little of the first, and a little of not having any promising leads at all.
But he sits down at the table with us. I've got May on my lap, and Lucas sits to one side of me. Roland's across from me, and he smiles as he looks at May.
"She's sleeping now?" He asks.
"Yeah. She just ate some soup and fell right asleep." Lucas says.
Roland nods. "That's good. She needs to eat and sleep." He glances at me. "You should eat something, too."
"I'm fine." I shake my head. "A little time living under a steady roof hasn't made me weak just yet."
