Chapter 144 - The Devine Couple

"What have you done to me? My power...," the God could do naught but grab at Null's legs and mutter.

Null merely kicked the restrained God away landing him squarely at the feet on the couple still enamored by each other.

After seeing the true form of the God, it was to be said that he was the complete opposite of what a respectable, honorable, and genuine person would look like.

He was stocky and unkempt with greasy looking hair unlike the silhouette that was generated from the radiance.

Even when the fake Evangeline came down in a futile attempt to aid her lord did she feel a type of way when she saw the groveling figure.

"So, this is the face of the scum that would taint the purity of my dearest Evangeline, huh," Edmond drew in closer after escaping his lover's arms and sneered with contempt, "Boy, do I have plans for you."

'This shouldn't have happened! Just what did I let enter my sacred realm to end up in this sorry state," the God was panicking after hearing the contempt ooze from his voice.

"Oi! Theef, is it? Do you think you could do something about this scum's powers?"

Upon hearing the sudden request, Theef took a second before smiling sinisterly, "I'd have to see based on the fact that he gained his power through a way other than Universal Rules, but I don't see why not."

Not taking his time, Theef immediately sent one of his tendrils into the God's body and began to search for a connection to his powers.

"I think I got something, but could ya lend me a hand, Null?"

Curious as to what he needed, Null asked, "What's up?"

"You got a way to store energies and the like, right? I can barely feel this punk's energy much less store it. I'll only absorb it in the end."

Seeing as Null had yet to absorb angelic essence and the God's power was somewhat unique, he fulfilled the request.

Usually, Null held spirit energy within the vortex, but he let it dissipate and began the process of absorbing the angelic essence from the suppressed God.

At the same time, he forged a connection with the Cosmic Structure to map out the area dictating angelic essence as he had done with the demonic essence and it glowed brightly in response.

This made it so that Null could replicate the essence of whatever was stored in the structure in the future without the need for a source; all that was required was the basis of all things: spirit energy.

Once he had completely drained the God of his powers, Null then looked to Theef, "So, what now?"

Theef sneered and turned to the couple in the room, "How about we give his power to the more deserving person."

Upon hearing the notion, Evangeline's eyes widened, "Wait. I don't think I'm worthy of such power."

"And you think this garbage is," Edmond snapped before softening his tone, "We'll be reassured if you have the power to defend yourself, so just consider it."

After taking a second to consider his point, recalling her past experiences with the God, Evangeline's anger was the only thing aroused.

"Fine. I'll become better than him by taking his own power."

And so, after making sure that the energy would not harm her, Null transferred the angelic essence from the God into Evangeline via the navy-blue energy.

To call him a God would not be entirely correct, but the energy Evangeline received was the purest form of angelic essence and seeing as the Devil was called as such the title seemed only apt.

The power Evangeline received mended her ailed body, suffusing into her entire being and transforming her into the same existence as the so-called God.

Her wings fell off of her supple skin and from the wounds, crystalline feathers burst forth with a radiant splendor.

She no longer had the look of a malnourished prisoner, but instead had the body and presence of a domineering queen.

As a final touch, a radiant halo appeared above her head cementing her status as a bonafide angel.

Unlike the other angels that simply had white feathered wings, Evangeline represented the purest form of an angel with the benefits that the God possessed.

It was strange as the God did not resemble an angel after the radiance from his body faded.

This mystery would only fall into the back of each of the crew's minds as they had stopped paying attention to him after his powers were officially stripped from him.

Even as he yelled for them to stop and return his powers back to him, Edmond simply grabbed him by the hair and dragged him onto Barter's Ruler's flying carpet as they exited the dungeon.

"This is an order from your new ruler: seal the entry to the dungeon and forget about its existence," Evangeline ordered with her newfound authority.

Just like with Edmond, it was as if they unlocked a seal within their beings allowing them to become the rulers of the realms they presided over without question.

As such, the guards immediately accepted that the previous God had been replaced by a similarly terrifying existence.

"As you wish, my lady!"

They had not even noticed that the sniffling loser in Edmond's hand was the frightening existence that they had once feared.

He had not grabbed the former God for no reason either.

"You there," he pointed towards one of the guards that was about to leave, "I have a special assignment for you."

Seeing as Edmond was in proximity to their new ruler, the guard looked back and forth between him and Evangeline.

'This aura is unmistakably that of a demon, yet her holiness is not the least bit perturbed by his presence.'

Seeing as the guard was hesitant to obey the orders of her lover, Evangeline smiled beautifully and turned Edmond's face to hers and planted a deep kiss on his jolted lips before speaking to the guard, "His words are mine. Listen to what he has to say."

The slack jawed guard could only slightly nod his head before listening to Edmond's orders.

The request was simple: round up all of the residents of the Angelic Realm to welcome the arrival of their new leader.

---

Very quickly, the entire courtyard of the mansion and lands beyond were filled with the angels living in the Angelic Realm.

When they were told of a new leader appearing after having known their lord for the entirety of their lives, they were immediately incensed to join the masses in welcoming a new leader.

"Look at that! Haha. If not for those demons being a despicable bunch, we'd have two massive armies at our disposal," Theef said after seeing the crowd.

"It's not as if these angels know how to fight like the demons anyways," Z'oelo commented, "All they know is peace. Even the number of guards in the mansion is so few."

"True, but just because they don't already know how to fight does not mean they aren't capable of learning," Edmond had just the plan to nurture a grand army as he had cleared out the Demonic Realm.

All he needed to do was wait for new souls to be born into the Demonic Realm and he would have a way to temper the innocent angels.

But that was a thought for later.

Now that the angels were here, it was time to subject the fallen God to one final embarrassment as Evangeline would step up as the ruler of the Angelic Realm.

Before she could step up to greet the masses, Edmond finally dragged the former God up and spoke, "This was the one you once revered as lord of the realm! And now, what once was his now becomes ours and that includes all of you! But before I allow my beloved to take the stage, I must first make things right."

"Stop it! Let me go! Someone! Help me! I am your rightful ruler!"

The former God protested and struggled while hoping that someone would hear his pleas.

"I only have one thing to say to this pathetic excuse of a man: REPENT!"

Before the pathetic excuse of a man could utter another word, flames burst forth and consumed his entire body.

At first, it was the insatiable purgatory flame that ate at and consumed the flesh of the writhing man, but then a rejuvenating holy flame healed him and cleared his melted flesh.

Thinking the pain had finally subsided, the former God sought to berate Edmond once more, but instead of speaking his mind he could only hold his breath as screams were the only thing to come from his mouth.

After showing the angels the spectacle, they thought negatively of the demon that was torturing their supposed God.

While they had never seen his true form, just from the fact that they were gathered under the decree of the angel guard spoke loudly of the magnitude of the situation.

Putting the torturous methods of Edmond aside, Evangeline spoke up before things could take a turn for the worst, "My people! I know that your previous lord seemed magnanimous and righteous, but I'm here to shed light on the truth! For years, I was trapped, chained to the walls of this scum's dungeon! My only solace was the thought of my lover's embrace and a promise to find me in my next life!"

Her words were met with silence as the angels truly did not know how to feel about her words.

This was their God she was speaking of after all.

Now that they saw the true form of their God and were hearing a completely different story, they were immediately dumbstruck at the notion that he could have done such a thing.

"That's my child up there! She was indeed roped into that man's clutches after stating that she was a chosen one! After seeking to meet with her after much time had passed, we were unable to even speak with her after being turned away by the very one who claimed to be our ruler!"

After hearing Evangeline's mother speak up, others with family that were dubbed as the so-called "chosen ones" began piecing the puzzle together as to the horrible truth that was now revealed to them.

"Despicable scum!"

"That was my wife you took!"

"My precious daughter!"

Edmond halted the torture subjected to the disheveled man to allow him to hear the public outrage against him.

"Not only have I taken your power, but now I have your people as well."

Only he heard Edmond's words as the final straw broke the camel's back.

The shell of the former God tried to lunge at Edmond in a final attempt to do harm, but he stood still and allowed it to happen.

A punch landed on Edmond's face, but he had not moved an inch.

Instead, he smiled and turned to the audience, "Is this your God?!"

Upon seeing someone do an act of harm to another, the angels immediately denounced their former God.

It was in their nature to be free from thoughts and actions of sinful nature, but it seemed that their God had not been one of them from the start.

"Then as one of your new rulers, I shall take it upon myself to rid this realm of this filth that dared act as one of our own!"

Instead of the purgatory or holy flames, Edmond now burnt the former God with the Flames of Retribution.

"She is your new God, and I, her husband! I am but a demon seeking to be free of sin with his angel! Together, we are the devilishly divine! The Devine Couple!"
