Father Sampton glanced at Jane Sampson, then called the nanny to pour her a glass of juice. Seeing the indifference on Jane's face, he felt a bit uneasy.
He wasn't entirely sure if he could convince Jane on his own. Bright Sampton was clearly not going to side with Julie Sampton.
"The reason I called you back is to talk to you about something," Father Sampton said only after the nanny had placed the juice in front of Jane, "Julie Sampton is pregnant."
Jane didn't touch the glass of juice, sitting there calmly as she let out a single "oh." "She's pregnant, and that requires me to be summoned back home for it? Isn't this the kind of thing you could've mentioned over the phone?"
Bright Sampton, sitting next to them, struggled to hold back his laughter. His sister was playing dumb while knowing exactly what was going on—acting was something she was highly skilled at.
