The word lingering in her mouth, "Dad," Jane Sampson ultimately didn't let it slip out.
"I didn't block you. Just now I was on the phone with Grandma, chatting with her for more than half an hour—that's probably why Dad couldn't reach me. I just hung up with Grandma when I got this call." Jane Sampson explained calmly and lightly.
Father Sampson paused for a few seconds before responding with an "Mm." "Your grandma always cherished you the most. You should spend more time bonding with her. She doesn't spoil Bright Sampton nearly as much as she does you. You need to make more time for her."
"Of course." Jane Sampson wasn't keen on continuing the conversation with Father Sampson, so she straightforwardly asked, "Dad, what's the matter you're calling me about?"
"You're not at the guard team now, are you?" Father Sampson asked. Afraid Jane might invoke James Black, he added, "Someone said they saw you come home at noon."
"Yes, I'm at home now." Jane Sampson responded.
