I sighed as I stared at the ceiling of my room. Even staring at the race track painted on it wasn't enough to calm me down. Saffron and Rose had taught me more tricks to win over Kiki's mean mommy. They'd taught me how to bow the right amount, to give compliments that didn't come off as rude or trying too hard, and how to bring small, respectable gifts—tea, neatly wrapped bread. Hopefully those could work.
Ma made yummy bread. The crust sang when you broke it, and the inside smelled so good, I couldn't stop my mouth from watering. Even the thought if it made me drool a little. If anything could be win over Kiki's mother it would be one of Ma's loafs—if I could get it to her without making a scene.
Kohei said he would help me, but he hadn't gotten back to me on that. Had he just told me that to cheer me up? I sighed and turned in my car-shaped bed.
What if I never got to see her again?
