[Earlier that night- Makkuroyama]
I smiled as Alabaster stared at the stalls that were being set up not too far from our palace.
"What are they doing, Daddy?" my four-year-old asked.
"They're preparing for Valencia's upcoming festival. It's all about corn!"
"Corn? Why corn?"
Kaze giggled as she patted our son's head. "Because Valencia was said to have granted our people corn. She taught our ancestors how to grow the various varieties and all other sorts of details."
"Like when to plant!" my sister-in-law added, smiling. It was nice to see Kiki at ease for tonight. My mother-in-law's decision to send her to boarding school next year had dampened her usual bright spirit. Which in turn had dampened my wife and son's spirits.
Kaze smiled gently as she knelt beside Alabaster, brushing a few strands of hair behind his ear. "Valencia also taught them not only how to grow corn but also how to use it in cooking, making it a staple food for our people."
