I returned to find Eiko with sauce on her face. Trying not to laugh, I crossed my arms.
"What happened to your face, Eiko? Did you begin eating without us?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
She shook her little head.
I sighed and walked over to her, wiping the smear away with a napkin from the table. "Eiko, avoid lying. It is not something you should get accustomed to."
She pouted and nodded. I couldn't stay stern with that face. I knelt down and pinched her cheek gently, prompting a giggle from her.
"Alright, hungry little girl, you can start eating. I will continue to wait for your mother to return."
"Mommy awake?"
I nodded. "She went to shower."
Eiko hummed as she picked up her tiny fork. "Mommy takes long baths, food might get cold, Daddy!"
I looked over my shoulder at the door. Eiko had a point. Eileen liked her long baths, but her showers were usually shorter.
"True. She likes being clean."
She giggled. "Me too! I like it when I smell like flowers!"
