"Uh, well, why don't we ask Mommy some other time?"
"Is it a secret? Is it bad?" she asked, looking at me with her big, gray eyes. "Am I in trouble? I'm sorry!"
I laughed. "No, no, you're not in trouble. Making a baby is a beautiful thing between two people who love each other."
She smiled. "Do Daddy and Mommy love each other? Sometimes, Mommy acts so cold to you. Like a stranger."
"Ah, that. Your mommy is a complicated woman. But, yes, we do love each other. It's just that our relationship is different from others. You'll understand when you're older."
"Does that mean I'm not getting a brother or sister?"
"No, no, you certainly have a shot at that. Don't worry. Just don't rush things. Focus on playing and learning. Let us adults handle getting a new family member, okay?"
She smiled. "Yay! I'm gonna be a big sister, Daddy!"
