It was closing for everyone with the exception of me. I was to be in detention until it was 5 for not being able to state Newton's third law. I honestly felt embarrassed earlier in class and I wished I could've answered the damn question. Madison wanted to wait in detention with me but Miss Carlos didn't agree so she had to go home. During detention Miss Carlos asked me to re read the assignment on Newton's law. I hate physics and reading the laws were so boring since I didn't understand any of them. Jake kept on throwing glances at me but I ignored him, not wanting any trouble with my teacher cause it seems she didn't like me. It was finally 5pm and Miss Carlos set me free.
"A minute Amara!" She called me when I was stepping out of the detention room. I walked towards her, wondering what the problem was this time.
"I've been going through all your tests and previous examinations and for the record, you might fail my course if you don't get an A in this term's paper" she said .
"An A?" I asked wondering how I was going to do that .
"Yes an A , that's the only way you can raise your GPA!" She added proudly.
"Not even a B….?" I asked
"I'm sorry it's either an A or you fail and you know how that's going to affect your GPA and qualifications for college "
"I will speak to your dad about this…" she added and my heart sunk.
"Please don't tell my dad about this please!" I pleaded knowing how disappointed he will be in me. Even though he knew I wasn't good academically, I didn't like the look on his face anytime my teachers made a complaint to him about my studies, it always made his heart shutter.
"I have no choice Amara!"
"I'm begging you Miss Carlos, I promise to do my best in your next test-if I don't get an A in your next test, you can tell him and I won't object" I pleaded.
"That sounds interesting, I'm cool with that " she said
"Thanks " I smiled
"You can leave now, it's getting dark " she said and I left the office.
I kept on thinking about what Miss Carlos said, concerning my GPA and wondering how I was going to get an A. The whole parking lot was abandoned and it was left with only my car and that of Miss Carlos. I looked inside my bag for my keys but to my surprise my keys were gone, they weren't inside my bag.
"Shit!" I cursed, remembering I left it inside my locker earlier. I rushed towards the hallway but the gate was locked and the security man was gone.
I called my mom and told her about the situation and she promised to pick me up in no time. I sat in front of the entrance, my stomach rumbling as I waited for mom. It's been 15 minutes already since I called her and she wasn't in yet. I got up from the lover's bench and just then I saw a familiar car, it was that of Ivan's.
"Sorry I'm late … hop in!" He said after lowering the glasses.
"I don't remember calling for you … how come you are here?" I asked.
"Your mom was out of town when you called so she asked me to pick you up " he replied
"Why didn't she tell me then… I would have called for an Uber " I replied angrily.
"It's late Amara and calling for an Uber isn't safe"
"And what makes you think I'm safe with you…"
"It's a good danger with me than with a total stranger " he smirked and he was actually right. I rolled my eyes angrily and sat inside, banging the door as loud as I can.
"Are you trying to break my door!" He laughed.
"I will repair all damages!" I replied rudely, looking outside the window.
"So you were being honest when you said you got into detention… I thought you said that to get away from me" Ivan said after some minutes of silence
"And why would I lie to get away from you!" I replied rudely
"I understand you are mad at me Amara but can you hear me out at least!" He said and my stomach rumbled loudly, causing me to be embarrassed.
"Was that your….!" He laughed
"If you continue like this, I promise I'm going to get down right here!" I said
"I'm sorry " he continued laughing and made a U turn.
"Why did you turn, this isn't the way home!" I said worriedly, looking at him for the first time since I sat inside the car.
"Trust me!" He placed his hand on my thigh and my heart skipped a beat . I shoved his hand away and straighten my dress.
"If you don't tell me where we are going I'm going to get down " I said and he immediately locked the doors.
"Ivan!" I glared at him and he smirked . My phone rung all of a sudden and it was a call from Eric.
"Oh my God I nearly forgot!" I exclaimed looking at the call and wondering whether I should pick up or not
"Who is it?" Ivan asked
"It's none of your business!" I replied and hid the phone in my bag , not picking up the call.
"I think you should pick up and tell him you can't make it … it's not good to keep him waiting " he said with an evil grin on his face.
"How did you know it was Eric and how did you know I was meeting him?" I looked at him suspiciously.
"You act childish at times Amara… Eric is my best friend remember?" He smirked.
"I will meet him " I said and texted him an sms saying I will be a little bit late.
Ivan pulled out in front of one of the Italian restaurants in town. It was one of the most expensive restaurant and I've always wanted to come here.
"I guess you like pasta… if not there are also some local dishes " he said as he opened the door for me.
"I never said I wanted to eat !" I glared at him even though I was pleased.
"Your stomach did …" he smiled and led me to a table. He ordered some sea food pasta and I ordered the same thing. I was really hungry and ate , to my satisfaction, not minding his presence at all. It was when I finished my plate did I realize he was actually just watching me as I ate . He had only taken two spoonfuls of his.
"Why did you order if you weren't hungry?" I asked as I cleaned my mouth.
"You look beautiful even when you eat !" He said and my stomach flattered.
"Pull yourself together Amara … he is only flattering you again!" I thought to myself.
"I want to go home … I have a date with Eric!" I said, ignoring what he said earlier.
"I know you think I used you Amara but the truth is…." He started.
"Don't explain anything Ivan and you didn't use me … I actually used you. I was a virgin but I lied to your friend that I wasn't… he proposed and since I was planning on being his girlfriend I didn't want him to find out I lied to him, that is why I allowed you to break my virginity so I won't present myself as a liar to the man I love " I said and my heart ached from saying that . Ivan looked at me in disbelief. He was speechless for a while and it seems he believed my words. I am a good actress so there was no way he wasn't going to believe that and considering the fact that I made direct eye contact as I said those words to him.
"The man you love…" he stuttered and I could see the sadness in his eyes. "Why is he sad now when he wasn't back then when Chloe was making fun of me .." I thought wondering what kind of person he really was .
"Yes Ivan … I love Eric… l'm sorry I misled you!" I said and got up from my seat, not making eye contact this time around. My own lies where stabbing me in the heart but I knew it was better this way.
