Polly Sutton decided to talk to Victor Parker about the divorce, so she took her book to the door to make notes.
"You caught me before I could even enter these newly arrived books?" The librarian was there today, smiled as he inputted the record and then processed her borrowing.
"Isn't it because I know you have treasures here?" Polly Sutton said with a big smile.
The librarian teasingly scolded her and completed the borrowing, handing her the book, "I've found the person holding Mason Rook's manuscript you asked me about. It's in the hands of someone from M Country, a very peculiar businessman. Besides asking for a high price, it's said that buying that manuscript requires passing his eye test."
Polly Sutton packed the book into her backpack, "How much?"
"Five million."
Polly Sutton froze momentarily while packing the book, and asked again uncertainly, "How much?"
The librarian laughed, "Five million, so better give up."
Polly Sutton sighed seriously, it seemed she still needed to take over the Parker family's business.
"Girl, you've spent quite a bit over the years for your obsession, but some things are just gone once they're gone, so don't be too fixated."
Even if a book contained just a little information about her obsession, she would buy it without caring about the price, likely having invested no less than millions over the years.
Polly Sutton paused, shouldering her backpack, just consider it her obsession.
"I've got to go now, I'll return the books next month," she said to the librarian.
But she still wouldn't give up on her obsession.
On her way out of the library to find Victor Parker, Polly Sutton unexpectedly encountered Victor's mother.
Polly Sutton got into the car and saw Mrs. Parker's stern face.
"Polly Sutton, how did you promise me back then?" Mrs. Parker got straight to the point, and if it weren't for maintaining her ladylike composure, she might have made a move.
"Instead of meeting me, why not go to President Parker and ask him to agree to get the divorce certificate with me? Once that's done, I promise not to appear in front of any of the Parkers again." Polly Sutton raised her hand to swear, showing enough sincerity.
"Are you suggesting my son won't let go of you?" Mrs. Parker glared angrily at what seemed like a madwoman, "If it weren't for the Rook family's accident, how would you have a chance to butter up the old lady?"
Polly Sutton had heard similar words countless times, often comparing her to other noble families or to a dead person, she almost couldn't roll her eyes enough.
"Mrs. Parker, as I've said before, I'm always ready to cooperate with Victor Parker to get the divorce certificate. Victor Parker isn't perfect to the point where everyone must have him," Polly Sutton said as she pushed open the car door to get out, "Mrs. Parker, I'll wait for your good news."
Mrs. Parker was so angry she kept gasping, watching Polly Sutton's departing back, "Ill-mannered girl."
Polly Sutton scratched her itchy ear, Mrs. Parker was surely cursing her again.
Polly Sutton went to Parker Corporation to discuss the divorce with Victor Parker, but she didn't expect to find him trying on suits just as she arrived.
Polly Sutton: "..."
Wait, wasn't she supposed to go with him to the birthday party?
"Victor Parker!" Polly Sutton waved off the stylists and ran directly to Victor Parker, "I have something to discuss with you."
Victor Parker raised his hand to have the clothes left behind and people step out.
"Your suspicions have been cleared, the culprit has been caught." Victor Parker sat down at his desk, looking up at Polly Sutton, "Is there anything else to talk about?"
Polly Sutton moved her lips, suddenly having a flash of inspiration.
Victor Parker had made a big deal out of going far to solicit proposals. The designer he brought back, though somewhat famous, really wasn't up to Parker Corporation's standards.
And once back, Victor Parker let them into the corporation's confidential area, the phones were confiscated, but the whole setup seemed careless.
Even last night, knowing about it, Victor Parker only looked upset, without seeming genuinely angry.
So from the start, Victor Parker had dug a trap for his uncle, just waiting for him to step in.
"Anything to say?"
Polly Sutton snapped back to reality, "No, nothing." She muttered, scratching her head and looking around.
Offending someone like Victor Parker might leave her not even a corpse, perhaps dragging this out for a year would be better.
Victor Parker was pleased with her response, nodded towards the clothes behind her, "Pick one for yourself, I'll pick you up tomorrow afternoon."
Polly Sutton turned to look at those dresses, she came here clearly intending to discuss the divorce.
"Um, your mom talked to me today, I think about the divorce..."
"My mom also talked to you when we got married."
"Wasn't it your grandmother who pushed back, not me? I still tend to hear my mom." Polly Sutton defended herself earnestly, indicating she's indeed an obedient child.
"Polly Sutton, are you forgetting to tell me something?" Leaning back on the chair, Victor Parker looked at the woman trying to be unreasonable with him, she seemed to have been hiding something crucial from him.
"What?" Polly Sutton felt obviously guilty.
"Nothing is best." Victor Parker sneered, watching how long she'd keep deceiving him.
Empty-handed, Polly Sutton left with a dress instead, feeling frustrated when she got downstairs, stomping the air: arrived full of spirit, left dejected and deflated.
As Polly Sutton left, she saw Mr. Parker being taken away, the scene stopped her from stomping her little foot in frustration, it was very terrifying.
"Victor Parker, you heartless nasty beast, your grandfather alive wouldn't dare treat me this way." Mr. Parker cursed endlessly while being dragged away.
Victor Parker stood with hands behind his back watching the man cursing wildly, "I'm not my grandfather, nor my grandmother, starting today, Parker Corporation listens to Victor Parker, not those who've passed."
This was directed at Mr. Parker, and even more so to those old board members around.
Outside the crowd, Polly Sutton bit her finger watching Victor, someone who stood out just by being there, fighting against such a person seemed to always end badly.
Shivering on a summer day, Polly Sutton hurriedly clutched her little backpack, leaving: Can't afford to provoke him, can't afford it!
Watching Polly Sutton run off through the crowd unintentionally softened Victor Parker's expression, coward.
Back at school, Polly Sutton slumped onto the sofa, the mentor's wife was watching financial news and chatted with Polly.
"That Victor Parker is really ruthless despite his young age."
Not just ruthless in strategy, also ruthless in action.
Perhaps she could make Victor Parker propose the divorce, like at tomorrow's birthday party, if she could embarrass him publicly, maybe...
Humph!
