Chapter 8 - The Quiver (Part 1)

Mu Lan had made up his mind: he would craft a quiver that produced infinite arrows. But first, he needed the recipe scroll—and that could only be obtained through a hidden quest.

In his past life, he'd watched as a handful of players eventually uncovered and shared these secret quests. They'd done it for fame, becoming household names across the server. Back then, Mu Lan had watched them with quiet envy.

But now?

Now, it would be others who looked at him and Beng Zeng with awe.

This life held no room for failure.

Without wasting another moment, Mu Lan set off. He knew exactly what it took to trigger the quest.

He met every condition. Now, he just needed to speak to the Archer Master in the city center—the only NPC who could offer this secret trial. Every class had its own hidden quests, and even secret classes had legendary trials of their own. But this one? This was the archer's first true test.

Heart pounding with anticipation, Mu Lan approached the Archer Master and initiated dialogue. Instantly, a new option appeared:

[Hidden Quest: The Archer's Quiver]

He clicked it—and a window materialized before his eyes.

Ding!

[Hidden Quest: The Archer's Quiver]

Most archers carry far too many arrows—wasting precious inventory space and slowing themselves down. In battle, an archer who runs out of arrows becomes useless.

To solve this, master archers of old crafted a magical quiver that never runs dry. They recorded its creation in a scroll, passing it down through generations.

Your Task: Enter the hidden passage beneath Tao Lake and retrieve the scroll.

⚠️ Warning: The path is extremely dangerous. Stay alert at all times.

Mu Lan smiled. He knew exactly where to go.

In his past life, he'd spent countless hours near Tao Lake—watching even level 20 archers struggle through this trial. A single mistake meant death. But Mu Lan? He'd memorized every trap, every current, every monster spawn.

And right now, he was level 0—which meant no hunger or thirst mechanics. Those only activated at level 1, when players began losing HP if their needs dropped to zero. Worse, dying at level 1 or higher meant losing a level and dropping random inventory items.

But at level 0? Death had no penalty.

That gave him all the courage he needed.

When Mu Lan arrived at Tao Lake, a wave of nostalgia washed over him. The area was completely empty—no players dared come here. The monsters here ranged from level 10 to 20, and even a single hit would kill him instantly.

But Mu Lan moved like a shadow. He slipped into the water without alerting a single beast, then dove deep—5 meters… 10 meters…—until he spotted it: the hidden passage.

To ordinary players, this entrance was invisible. It had taken the community two full years to discover it in his past life. But Mu Lan found it in minutes. His knowledge wasn't just an advantage—it was a chasm separating him from everyone else.

He swam inside. The monsters outside couldn't keep up with his speed.

Inside the passage, he saw the stone sarcophagus at the center of the chamber. The scroll lay inside—but the moment he took it, traps would activate. He'd have to escape immediately.

Mu Lan approached slowly, every sense sharp. He reached the sarcophagus… and in one swift motion, grabbed the scroll.

Ding!

[Quest Completed!]

Arrows whistled past his ears the instant he turned—wall-mounted crossbows firing from the shadows.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

He didn't look back. Ahead, a new trap emerged: spiked pits lining the floor. But Mu Lan had seen this before. He leapt over them cleanly, stowed the scroll in his inventory, and dove back into the lake.

As he surfaced, the monsters around the shore roared in unison—as if sensing the theft of something ancient. They charged.

Mu Lan didn't hesitate. He sprinted toward the city, heart racing.

The real fight had just begun.
