Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: New Discoveries

After a long session of training, Zad lied on the ground trying to regain the energy he had lost. He looked over at Thane and the others seeing how well they got along with each other and couldn't help but smile. The sun began to set putting a close on the long day. Zad sat up and said, "It might be time for me to head back over to the inn before I worry Ken and Arthur."

Thane looked sad, saying, "You're leaving already, I'm sure they won't mind if you stay for a little while longer because there's something important I would like to discuss with you."

"Important...?"

Fern interrupted the conversation nervously saying, "Thane, don't tell me you mean to talk about that... we can't get others involved in this situation, it's just not right!"

"I'm only answering his question from earlier. I won't force him into helping us if he doesn't want to."

Elias jumped into the conversation arguing with Thane, "How can we trust him, you already know what he is!"

"So what if he's a noble, he's not our enemy, you can't treat every single one of them as evil if you know nothing about them. After this sparring match and from the moment we met I was able to discern that, he's genuinely a good person, how do you still fail to realise that?"

Elias stood silent for a short while after getting put in his place by Thane and quietly said, "Fine."

He walked off into another direction alone, attempting to cool his head.

"Sorry about him, his anger and hatred against you isn't fair, but there is a reason for it..."

"A reason? Does it have to do with what you're going to tell me?"

"Most of it does. How about we go somewhere else, others might want to come here since it is the training grounds."

"Sure."

Zad and the others decided to head for a secluded area where they set up a campfire and sat around it. Thane added more wood to the campfire, increasing the flames, he then said, "So, where should I start."

[At the docks with Ken and Sirus.]

Sirus looked up at the sky and said, "It's getting quite late now maybe it would be best for you to head back now. Still, I cannot even begin to wrap my head around what happened earlier..."

Ken replied saying, "It's definitely something to look out for, but I'll talk to the innkeeper about it and see if he might have any speculations."

Ken pulled out the dagger dropped by one of the goblins and said, "This should surely hold a lot of answers."

Sirus became agitated saying, "You should put that away! People might start to suspect you for carrying around something like that. Whoever gave it to them probably wouldn't have expected them to run into someone like you either. To think about how many other lives they probably took before you stopped them..."

"There's not much we can do about the lives that were lost, but what we can do is make people more aware and spread the word, until then try not to get yourself killed. I'll be off now, I hope to see you again at the capital."

Ken walked off waving goodbye to Sirus with him replying saying, "You should be more worried about yourself."

Ken found himself back at the incident with the goblins from earlier. To his surprise, the bodies disappeared and were nowhere to be seen. He looks shocked and said to himself, "You've got to be kidding me, right... I was too careless there must've been more of them lurking around the area."

He looked around the area in suspicion while holding the goblin's dagger tightly saying, "At least I still have this... I think it should be safe to say they won't be coming back here again. I'll have to call it a day here and let Arthur know what's going on. He should at least know something about it."

Ken hurried back to the village so he could tell Arthur about everything that occurred during his escort mission. He arrived back at the inn opening the door, seeing a few adventurers but no Arthur, he approached the man that looked to be working at the front desk. He looked relaxed reading a newspaper.

As Ken neared him, he yawned and said, "It'll be five gold for a room for the night."

"I'm not here for that you fool, where's Arthur?"

"Arthur? Oh, you must be talking about the boss, he's gone out for a while he'll be back in a few hours. Wait, who's the fool!?"

Ken walked out, saying, "You are, guess I should go see how Zad's doing and collect him. I thought he would've been back by now. What could be taking him so long..."
