Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: New Life

Chapter 1: New LifeFanfic by: Geraint

(MC's POV)

I felt the warmth of the sunlight brushing against my face as I slowly opened my eyes.

"Ugh…"

Blinking a few times, I sat up and looked around.

I was in the middle of an endless sea of grassy plains, the soft green blades swaying gently in the breeze.

"Huh? Where am I?"

A sharp confusion gripped me—I didn't recognize this place at all. How did I get here?

I tried to recall what happened.

Ugh... A stabbing headache struck my temples, making me wince.

Bits and pieces came rushing back to me.

I was walking home, casually strolling along the streets when something on the other side of the road caught my attention.

Seven tall, intimidating black men—all muscular and dressed uniformly in black suits with white shirts inset, black sunglasses, and matching hats—were carrying a brown coffin between them.

Their eyes were locked on me. The way they stared sent a chill down my spine—bad vibes radiated from them like heat from a fire.

I tried to ignore them and looked away.

Then, out of nowhere, an oil tanker truck barreled toward me at breakneck speed.

Tooooot! Tooooot!

My eyes widened in disbelief—I saw no driver behind the wheel.

Crash!

After that, everything went black.

Now, here I was, awake but lost in an unfamiliar place.

It had to be the afterlife.

There was no way I could have survived that accident.

Standing up, I looked at my reflection in a nearby puddle.

I was still wearing the same clothes I had on before—white shirt, black necktie, black slacks, and black-and-white shoes.

"Well, where do I start? I'm in a strange place with nothing... Wait!"

I patted my pockets searching for something.

"It's not in my pocket… Oh, there it is!"

Hanging from my belt was my trusty multi-tool.

The one I always carried when working my part-time job, just in case my bike broke down.

It had everything: needle-nose pliers, standard pliers, wire cutters, sharp and serrated knives, scissors, fire starter, emergency whistle, can opener, bottle opener, multiple screwdriver heads, double-sided file, rope cutter—you name it.

Perfect for outdoor survival.

I was glad I'd brought it.

It was tucked safely inside a durable nylon pouch.

(Image placeholder)

First things first—I needed to find signs of civilization.

Water and food were my immediate priorities if I wanted to keep moving.

I spotted a mountain not far off and decided to climb it to get a better view.

I plunged into the dense forest, the sunlight filtering through the thick canopy above, dappling the ground in shifting patterns.

Rustle rustle.

A sudden noise from the bushes made me freeze.

"Hmm?"

Instinctively, I pulled out the small knife from my multi-tool, holding it ready.

Suddenly, a strange creature burst from the underbrush—a large white rabbit with a sharp, pointed horn sprouting from its head.

"What the…?"

I'd never seen a horned rabbit before.

The creature charged at me, eyes wild.

I quickly dodged to the side, grabbed the horn, and hoisted it in front of me as it thrashed.

I smirked confidently.

"You reap what you sow... Now, become my meal."

I drove the Swiss Army knife deep into its neck.

Whisshck!

The creature writhed in pain, screaming until it finally fell still in my hands.

"Got my food, now for water."

I needed a container first—bamboo would do perfectly.

On the way to the mountain, I found some sturdy bamboo stalks and carefully cut a hollow piece.

My water container secured, I continued toward the mountain, the rabbit meat and bamboo hanging from my backpack.

At the foot of the mountain, a cool river babbled, crystal-clear.

I knelt, washing my face with the cold water and taking a long, refreshing drink.

Gazing down into the river, I caught my reflection.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin—unchanged.

The same me.

Then I began climbing.

I had to reach the summit before nightfall.

Hours later, I finally reached the peak, panting but exhilarated.

I drank some water, then sat beneath a tall tree, watching the sunset set the sky ablaze with red and gold.

"I guess I'll rest here tonight."

Gathering dry branches, I started a small fire on a flat stone and cooked the rabbit meat over the flames.

While waiting, I gazed up at the first twinkling stars emerging in the darkening sky.

Then my eyes dropped to the rabbit's horn in my hand.

I recalled the strange trees and plants I'd seen on the way up—nothing like the flora from my old world.

This wasn't just some dream—I was really somewhere else.

Somewhere new.

Somewhere unknown.

I thought about what to do next.

"I'll sleep now and figure it out tomorrow."

After eating, I curled up beside the fire and drifted into a restless sleep.

Morning came.

I woke up, washed my mouth with river water, and stretched.

The night hadn't been easy.

Bugs crawled over me, and a large snake hissed nearby—I killed it with a makeshift spear.

Now, snake meat for breakfast.

Suddenly,

Kabe kabe kabe kabe!

"Huh?"

A rhythmic tapping echoed above.

I looked up.

A flock of cabbages fluttered across the sky.

I blinked.

Am I still dreaming?

Water sprayed from my mouth in disbelief.

Pfffft!

I coughed and wiped my mouth.

Watching the cabbages flying in formation, my cheek twitched.

"No way... this world…"

It was the fantasy realm from the anime I loved back in my past life.

A world of swords, magic, and adventure—a medieval age filled with danger and wonder.

Konosuba.

I sighed and scratched my head.

"Well… guess I'll find Axel Town from here."

Descending the mountain, I followed the cabbage flock's direction.

To survive, I set traps for small wild monsters and gathered berries and fruits.

The world was abundant with resources.

A week flew by.

I found myself sprinting shirtless through a dense forest.

Behind me, a massive black feline beast chased me—known as the Rookie Killer or Beginner's Bane.

They're cunning predators who herd goblins and use them to trap unwary adventurers.

Luckily, I'm fast enough to dodge its attacks.

I darted behind a tree and stopped, smirking.

"Come here, little pussycat! Meow! Meow!"

Rawr!

The beast pounced in front of me.

"Fool, you fell for it."

Crash!

The creature tumbled into a deep hole I'd dug, filled with sharpened wooden spikes.

It took three days to prepare the trap.

Rawr…

Still alive.

I grabbed a huge rock nearby.

Rawr!

With a cruel smile, I dropped it on the beast's head again and again.

Finally, it stopped moving.

After the fight, I felt stronger—lighter.

"Looks like I leveled up."

This always happened after killing monsters.

I dismantled the body with my Swiss knife, salvaging parts to sell in Axel Town.

I'd need money—Adventurer's Guild Cards cost 1000 Eris, and there would be other expenses.

Hours later, exhausted but prepared, I made camp to rest before continuing.

(To be continued.)

A/N: I'll be resting on this fanfic for a bit. I don't want to start a new story just yet, so I made this spin-off with a normal reincarnation without cheats.
