The day started off quietly; just an ordinary day. However, unexpected events later occurred, causing a significant change in the situation.
Something truly frightening.
A dark and vast dimension, reminiscent of black holes, appeared everywhere, and from its endless depths, monsters began to emerge.
In an instant, everything was turned into ruins and covered in blood. Some people may scream and flee, while others might become paralyzed with shock.
The monsters were invulnerable to human armaments. After hundreds of casualties, a game-like blue status window appeared before certain individuals, and they began to manifest extraordinary abilities. Those who possesses special abilities began to eliminate monsters, subsequently becoming known as hunters.
In reality, there are no such things as status points, levels, or classes, unlike in a game.
In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
A nation located in Asia with a population of approximately 3.5 million.
Due to the majority of the population residing in the capital, this unfortunately led to high casualties.
In the middle of a devastated city, a young girl stands while holding a club.
She's 176 cm tall, and it makes her noticeably taller than the average height for girls.
Her hair is cut short, jet black, and it has slightly tousled. It fluttered around as she fought monsters, droplets of thier blood shimmers on her pale skin.
After successfully neutralizing of the dozens of monsters, a unique-grade item was dropped.
The assassin's mask, according to its description; This item renders the wearer entirely unrecognizable.
She wore it without hesitation. The mask turned black and completely covered her face.
Then she heard a scream nearby. She hastened to the location and noticed a young girl was about to be attacked by a monster. On this occasion, the monster proved to be considerably more formidable than the monsters she had previously encountered. A monster resembling the Grim Reaper, complete with a scythe and a dark hood.
"Hey, you! Run away!"
The young girl remains in a state of shock.
(Fuck! It will be hard to fight while protecting her.)
She led the monster away to a distant location.
Despite its size, the monster exhibited remarkable agility. The monster's speed and strength were almost overwhelming for her.
She barely evades or deflects the attack, her movements swift and calculated. Through consistent effort and careful observation, she began to recognize the attack patterns, which allowed her to anticipate and counter the monster's attack, and eventually to defeat the monster despite her initial weakness.
(What the hell was that monster? A boss?)
Upon opening her inventory, she discovered a scythe that had been used by the boss monster.
(At least, the items I got from defeating monsters added to my inventory, which is very convenient.)
Nyxoria; Legendary grade scythe. When wielded by its acknowledged owner, Nyxoria's attacks have a 20% chance to execute targets below 30% HP, instantly killing them. The scythe's power grows with each soul claimed, increasing the user's critical hit chance by 1% per kill (max 10%).
*If anyone else attempts to wield Nyxoria, they are consumed by dark fury, entering a berserk state.
She briefly observed the scythe.
(Seems like I got something decent yet scary. Does it even recognize me as its owner?)
While she was looking at her status window, the girl she saved approached.
"Uhm, excuse me. Are you the one who saved me?"
"Oh, yeah. Right."
"Thank you so much, Sir! Honestly, I thought I was about to die."
(Wait, does she think that I am a guy? Oh, right. I was wearing a mask. Isn't it actually better than the ominous scythe? It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing it.)
"Uhm, sorry, what should I call you, Sir?"
She looks at her with a bit of annoyance thinking (Ugh. Typical heroine character from brainrot romance novel.) and says, "You can call me... K."
(Yeah, I don't have to tell her my name. This is no longer the world I know but something very familiar.)
"Okay, Mr. K. I'm Misheel. Nice to meet you.", she replied happily while smiling.
(Weren't you about to piss in your pants? How can you act like this after that? This will take forever if I don't find excuse to leave.)
"Now, go back to the shelter before it gets dark."
"But what about you, Mr. K?"
"I am a pretty busy person. If you don't have anything to say I'm leaving."
"I guess, right. You're very strong after all. By the way-"
K left without a word before she finished her words.
Misheel remained somewhat bewildered for a time, but eventually left.
K went back to the ruined building which she is currently using as a temporary shelter.
She removes her mask and gazes at it.
(Just a week ago, everything was normal. Now, monsters are roaming around everywhere as if it were a game. Even though there is a status window, there's no such thing as status points, nor I am able to see it. However, there are many similarities. Just because I like playing or reading something doesn't mean I want to experience it myself. At least everyone started to get the hang of their skills, and so did I.)
Tomorrow morning.
K wore her mask and proceeded to go out for a patrol, where she encountered a group of hunters.
A middle-aged man asked, "Are you a hunter, young man?"
"What if I am?", K said.
The middle-aged man laughed, "Kids nowadays are surely rough. Don'tbe so wary. I'm not gonna eat you. We are a group of hunters preparing to enter the gates. If you are also a hunter, would you like to join our party?"
K thinks, (Well, I was interested in other hunters anyway. As long as I don't let my guard down, it should be fine, I guess.)
K has agreed to join the team, having introduced herself solely as K, and has not communicated further since that time.
The group of members were cautious of her. So, she remained behind and quietly followed them. They were discussing various topics, including monsters, everyday challenges, and themselves. Seems like that some hunters and soldiers left at the shelter with approximately 250 000 people. As one of the largest shelters, they have been conducting patrols with several groups, each 5 to 10 people to ensure citizen's safety.
Based on the information she collected, a group leader is Batbayar, a 43 year old man who works at goverment.
Other members; his right hand, Gansukh, 41 years old man. Ganzo, around 25-30 years old man and Khaliuna, a teenage girl.
They have finally reached the gate. It was surrounded by monsters, and the group members immediately prepared for combat.
K then provided support from behind while observing them.
Their equipment was rather blunt, whether they utilized all available resources.
It appears to be a very veteran team. Their chemistry was excellent, which suggests they have been fighting for a considerable period.
Upon passing through the gate, they experienced a momentary sensation of nausea before finding themselves in an entirely different location.
As they progress, the monster's strength increases. However, they successfully made it through the boss area.
A colossal minotaur awaited their arrival.
While others may have been experiencing difficulties, K found this considerably easier than the Grim Reaper she had recently encountered.
The reward from the boss was not particularly remarkable. A magical stone that serves no purpose, alongside low-quality equipment.
Following their victory over the boss, they began establishing a hunter association to facilitate the clearing of additional dungeons and for better opportunities.
There are two primary reasons why K tends to avoid people. First, they may resort to any means necessary to attain their objectives or to manipulate others into doing their bidding. Lastly, if one becomes emotionally attached to someone, there is a risk that the individual may pass away unexpectedly.
K refused to join the association, but she stated that she would assist in clearing dungeons, if they premitted her to enter alone.
Having witnessed her strenght with their own eyes, and as result, they did not object her request. Since then she started independently clearing dungeons with her newly obtained scythe.
Within a month, she was able to clear more than 20 dungeons independently, as result, it descreased monsters population significantly.
