Chapter 10 - Result and summer plans

The classroom felt unusually tense.

Ms. Iva and Mr. Mehra entered, carrying thick folders. Their expressions were serious.

"Students," Ms. Iva said firmly, "do not leave the classroom. Results will be posted in the hallway. Once we attach them, you may go and check."

Whispers erupted. Some students shuffled nervously in their seats.

Vijay leaned back slightly, calm as ever. Dev and Ayaan exchanged glances. Kabir, half-awake as usual, yawned, clearly unconcerned—though his curiosity peeked through.

Finally, the teachers left. Seconds later, footsteps and murmurs echoed in the hallway as the result sheets were pinned to the wall.

The students stormed out to check.

Percentages revealed:

Vijay Dev — 94%

Riya — 93%

Dev Malhotra — 84%

Ayaan Sheikh — 90%

Kabir Rana — 81 %

Tanu Jarval — 92%

Nikhil — 96%

Rohit — 95%

Ishaan — 97%

Misha — 67%

Rhea — 77%

Kavya — 89%

Sana — 89%

Rahul — 88%

Priya — 56%

The hall buzzed like an electric current.

But tension rose quickly near the trio girls.

Misha squinted at the board.

"What… Riya scored 93%?!" she hissed.

Rhea and Kavya leaned over, their faces twisted in disbelief.

"How does she always outshine us?" Kavya spat.

By lunch break, the three girls had a plan.

They cornered Riya near the cafeteria.

"Hey… fancy girl," Misha said sarcastically, "looks like someone thinks she's better than everyone."

Rhea grabbed a ketchup bottle from a nearby table.

"Time to teach her a lesson."

Before Riya could react, the girls splashed ketchup on her skirt.

"Watch where you flaunt your scores!" Rhea sneered.

A small crowd had gathered, whispers spreading like wildfire.

Kabir, standing nearby, laughed loudly.

"Oh, this is going to be good. Someone grab popcorn!"

Vijay's eyes narrowed. He stepped forward.

"Hey! That's enough!"

But Riya didn't flinch.

Her eyes locked on the girl holding her wrist. Calm, steady, controlled.

Without hesitation, she twisted the hand sharply and slapped Misha across the face.

The hall went silent.

"Really?" Riya said, voice calm but cutting.

She turned to Rhea. "You? Bad makeup skills, yet bold enough to insult someone else. Embarrassing."

Kavya's eyes widened. "Hey!"

Riya smiled faintly. "Oh, you? Ignored by almost all the boys, yet acting like you run the school. Pathetic."

Rhea tried to step forward.

Riya's voice rose slightly. "And you—cheating in exams, skinny to the point of looking like a stick puppet. Do you want me to continue?"

The trio shrank, humiliated, and without a word, stormed toward the principal's office.

Tanu, standing nearby, was wide-eyed.

I didn't know she could… she thought.

Dev's grin widened.

"Now that's bravery."

Kabir, trying not to laugh, whispered:

"Her roasting skills… lethal. I might be scared if I were them."

Vijay's chest tightened slightly—not from fear, but… impressed.

The precise calm, the confidence, the strength—it wasn't just physical.

Even the three toppers—Nikhil, Rohit, Ishaan—stood frozen. Ishaan's gaze lingered on Riya just a moment too long, suspicion flickering across his face.

Then, as quickly as it happened, Riya's expression softened.

"I… I apologize to everyone," she said quietly. "For my behavior. I shouldn't have done that."

The crowd blinked in surprise.

Vijay couldn't stop the small smile forming.

She's… complex. Always full of surprises.

The rest of the day was calmer.

Ms. Iva and Mr. Mehra returned to class.

"Now," Ms. Iva said, "let's discuss your weaknesses and strengths during these exams."

For over an hour, they explained mistakes, gave tips, and highlighted strong performances.

Students listened intently, scribbling notes.

Finally, Mr. Mehra cleared his throat.

"And now… one month of summer vacation starts tomorrow."

A collective cheer erupted, voices overlapping, claps, laughter, some students hugging friends.

Vijay, Dev, Kabir, and Ayaan huddled near the gate afterward.

"Vacation plans?" Dev asked.

"Beach trip?" Kabir suggested half-asleep.

"I'm in," Vijay said.

Tanu stood beside them.

"Can I come?" she asked softly.

"Of course," Ayaan replied. "But… maybe we should invite more girls, so you don't feel alone."

Vijay raised an eyebrow.

Ayaan smirked and turned to Riya.

"Riya, you're coming, right?"

Riya hesitated, about to decline…

Then Sana jumped in mid-sentence:

"We'll come too!"

The group laughed, the plan forming naturally, a mix of excitement and ease in the warm sunlight.

Narrator:

Exams tested knowledge… but friendship, courage, and subtle bonds were the lessons that mattered most.

And for these students, the summer promised laughter, growth, and the continuation of stories yet untold.
