Chapter 4 - 3

The First Hunt

That night, Ryan's first real test came. He was walking through the abandoned docks when the shadows thickened around him. Figures emerged—creatures born of darkness, moving with unnatural grace. Their eyes glowed like embers.

Fear surged, but so did something new: control. Ryan raised his hand, and the shadows recoiled. A blade of darkness formed at his wrist, slicing through one of the creatures as easily as a knife through cloth.

Kael's voice came from the shadows, calm yet urgent. "Do not hesitate. Trust yourself."

Ryan fought like a man possessed. Every movement, every thought, shaped the shadows. He realized the creatures were testing him, probing his weakness. The battle was exhausting, leaving him bruised and bleeding, but he survived.

From the water, something larger stirred. Eyes like molten gold pierced through the fog. Ryan shivered. Whatever was out there, it was not done with him.Moonlight Training

Kael decided Ryan wasn't ready. "You cannot face them without control," he said. That night, they climbed to a cliff overlooking the ocean, where the moon hung low and bright.

Training began at midnight. Shadows twisted around Ryan, forming shapes and responding to his thoughts. At first, they wavered and faltered. Ryan fell, scratched, exhausted, and frustrated. Kael watched silently.

"Focus," Kael commanded. "Your mind must be sharper than your fear. Control comes from understanding yourself."

Hours passed. Ryan learned to summon shields, form weapons, and even cloak himself in darkness. Sweat mixed with rain, and his lungs burned with effort. Yet by dawn, he felt transformation. He could feel the shadows bending to his will, not just reacting, but obeying.
