Prison was not what Yusuf had imagined…
It was deeper.
Not in size… but in feeling.
Thick walls that suffocated sound, heavy air that barely moved, and faces carrying stories that were never told. No one asked, "Why are you here?"
Because everyone… had a reason they did not want to remember.
Yusuf entered with calm steps, despite the weight of the chains on his hands. The door slammed shut behind him, as if announcing the end of something… and the beginning of something else.
But Yusuf… did not break.
He sat in a corner, observing.
As always.
—
Days passed with a slow, crushing weight.
Screams in the night.
Whispers in the dark.
Mad laughter with no reason.
But Yusuf did not change.
He was calm… more than he should have been.
Until the others began to notice him.
—
"You… are not like us."
One of the prisoners said it as he approached cautiously.
Yusuf lifted his gaze.
"We are all here for a reason."
The man smirked:
"But not all of us… are innocent."
Yusuf did not respond.
Because silence… is sometimes more truthful.
—
With time, the prisoners began to come closer to him.
Not out of fear.
But comfort.
There was something about him… that made the darkness feel lighter.
—
And one night…
Two men approached him.
Their faces were tired, but their eyes carried clear worry.
"I saw a dream…" said the first.
"And I did too…" the second added quickly.
Yusuf looked at them.
He did not ask "Why me?"
He simply said calmly:
"Tell me."
—
The first began:
"I saw myself pressing grapes… with my hands, as if I were serving something to an important man."
Then the second, hesitantly:
"As for me… I saw bread above my head, and birds were eating from it…"
Silence fell.
Even the air seemed to be waiting.
—
Yusuf closed his eyes for a moment.
Not to think…
But to listen.
To something others could not hear.
—
Then he opened his eyes.
And looked at the first man:
"You will be released… and return to your place. You will serve again."
The man trembled between fear and hope.
Then Yusuf turned to the second.
His voice became slower… heavier:
"As for you…"
He paused.
Just one second.
But it was enough to change everything.
"…you will not leave."
The man lowered his eyes, as if the truth had already found its way to him before the words.
—
That night…
No one slept.
But the next day…
What Yusuf had said happened.
Exactly.
—
The first was released.
The second… was gone.
—
From that moment on…
Yusuf was no longer just a prisoner.
—
He became…
a voice.
—
Stories began to spread.
"There is a man inside… who sees what we cannot see."
"He understands what cannot be understood."
Even the guards…
began to look at him differently.
—
And one day…
Before the man who was saved left, he rushed to Yusuf.
"I will not forget what you did… I will get you out of here, I promise!"
Yusuf looked at him calmly.
"Just remember…"
But the man was already gone.
—
Days passed…
Then weeks…
Then…
silence.
—
No one came back.
—
Yusuf sat in his place, as he always did.
He did not get angry.
He did not lose hope.
—
He simply…
understood.
—
Some doors do not open quickly.
And some promises…
are lost outside the walls.
—
But inside him…
that light was still there.
Stronger than before.
—
And somewhere far away…
in a palace filled with gold and power…
there was a dream…
no one could understand.
—
Not yet.
