Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Starting with an Entire Apartment Building?

"ROOAAARRR—!"

"SCREEAACHH—!!"

Ear-piercing howls echoed through the jagged ruins, mingling with the clatter of falling rubble and the screech of monstrous claws scraping against concrete.

Stretching out as far as the eye could see was a wasteland of architectural skeletal remains. Twisted rebar pierced the gloomy gray sky like sun-bleached bones. Between the shattered walls, monsters of all shapes and sizes prowled.

Short, hideous goblins shouldered rusted iron axes, shoving one another as they scavenged. Monstrous birds with wingspans of several meters circled the ruins above, their saliva dripping from sharp beaks and kicking up tiny puffs of dust as it hit the stones.

Right in the center of this desperate wasteland stood a fifteen-story apartment building, rising above the wreckage like a crane among a flock of chickens.

Its cream-colored exterior was so pristine it didn't hold a speck of dust. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the dim light of the sky. The structure was so perfectly intact that it created a bizarre sense of disconnect from the surrounding devastation—as if a divine blade had carved out a solitary, independent sanctuary from the ruins.

Inside the luxury penthouse on the top floor...

Soft, cream-colored wool carpeting covered the floor. A few fluffy throw pillows were scattered in front of the window. A youth dressed in a loose gray hoodie sat cross-legged on the carpet, an open bag of snacks resting on his lap. He seemed completely oblivious to the potato chip crumbs clinging to the corner of his mouth.

With one hand, he popped a chip into his mouth; with the other, he rested his arm casually on his knee. He stared blankly at the hellish landscape outside the window, his eyes filled with a lingering sense of helplessness.

"Sigh... if I'd known, I wouldn't have been so brain-dead as to set those rules..." Su Mu chewed his chip, sighing mid-crunch. His voice was thick with regret. "No, wait. Even if I'd used normal rules, with the starting location set in this godforsaken place, there's no way anyone would actually move in!"

That's right—Su Mu wasn't from this world.

Three days ago, he had been huddled in his rented room—scarcely ten square meters—staring at a computer screen playing a newly released apartment management simulation game.

As a hardcore shut-in, Su Mu's life consisted of nothing but food delivery and ACG (Anime, Comic, Games) media. His real-world social circle was practically non-existent. Light novels, anime, and games featuring beautiful girls were the entirety of his spiritual sustenance.

Thus, when setting the rental rules for the apartment in the game, he had instinctively typed out the conditions that best suited his own desires.

Goddess Apartment Rental Conditions: Only beautiful girls approved by the Apartment Manager.

As for the name "Goddess Apartment," it was a dead giveaway of his intentions. Just thinking about a future where the building was filled with various beautiful girls had made him chuckle to himself for quite a while.

To him, this kind of setting was standard. After all, in any game that allowed character creation, his first choice was always to craft a beautiful female avatar.

But who could have guessed? The moment he finished setting the name and conditions and clicked "Start Game," a blinding white light swallowed him whole.

When he opened his eyes again, not only had he transmigrated to this strange world, but he had brought the Goddess Apartment from the game with him, fully intact.

The initial rush of excitement hadn't even lasted three days before being completely extinguished by the sight of the ruins and the monsters.

Su Mu put down his chips and rubbed his tired eyes. His gaze swept over the monsters outside—creatures so ugly they were stomach-turning—and he couldn't help but shudder.

"Am I supposed to take these things as tenants?"

He leaned closer to the window for a better look. The monsters outside were either green, wrinkled goblins, or three-eyed birds with wings like tattered rags. Some even dragged long, slimy tails, leaving trails of disgusting mucus wherever they crawled.

There was no way Su Mu could, in good conscience, consider these neither-man-nor-ghost abominations as "beautiful girls."

"The surrounding buildings clearly look like a modern city, so why are there fantasy creatures like goblins...?" Su Mu muttered, resting his chin in his hand as his finger aimlessly traced a line on the glass. "Just what kind of world is this...?"

Vrrrrmmmm— Vrrrrmmmm—

Suddenly, a massive humming sound drifted from the distance. It grew louder and louder, sounding like a dozen helicopters hovering right next to his ear, making the window panes vibrate slightly.

"Humans?!"

Su Mu's eyes lit up, and he snapped upright.

He rushed to the window, standing on his tiptoes to look toward the source of the sound.

But in the next second, his smile froze. His pupils contracted sharply, and the blood in his veins seemed to turn to ice.

That was no helicopter. It was an insect of an impossibly massive scale!

Its body was at least a hundred meters long—taller than the apartment building itself. Its general shape resembled a cicada magnified tens of thousands of times. Its dark brown carapace was covered in irregular protrusions that shimmered with a cold, metallic luster.

Massive transparent wings vibrated at high speed—the source of that deafening hum. Its six thick legs were like tempered steel pillars; every step it took crushed massive sections of the ruins beneath it.

Most horrifying of all was the center of its head: it bore a twisted human face. The features were blurred, yet they radiated a piercing, bone-chilling malice.

"What... what the hell is that thing...?"

Su Mu instinctively took two steps back. His heel caught on a throw pillow, nearly sending him sprawling.

He felt a strange sense of familiarity toward this giant cicada, but the overwhelming terror left him no room for thought. His body took over, backing him away until his spine hit the cold, hard wall.

With a size like that, if it crashed into the building, no matter how sturdy the apartment was, wouldn't it be leveled instantly?

BOOM!!!

A deafening explosion erupted as the giant cicada's head slammed violently into the floor-to-ceiling window right in front of Su Mu.

That twisted human face was pressed almost directly against the glass. Its cloudy eyes stared fixedly into the room. Saliva trickled down its cheeks, leaving a long, wet smear on the pane.

A massive shockwave rippled out from the point of impact, blowing away the rubble and rebar surrounding the apartment. Several goblins that hadn't managed to hide in time were instantly reduced to meat paste by the pressure.

Su Mu squeezed his eyes shut and clamped his hands over his ears, bracing for the building to shake or collapse.

But after several seconds, the vibration he expected never came.

He cautiously opened one eye and found that the apartment hadn't shifted an inch. Even the glass of the window was perfectly intact, without so much as a scratch.

"Phew... okay, thank god. It looks like the game settings carried over too."

Su Mu let out a long breath, his tense body relaxing instantly. His back was already drenched in a cold sweat.

He remembered that the basic setting for the apartment in the game was "Indestructible," designed to ensure the safety of the tenants. At the time, he'd thought the setting was redundant. Now, he was incredibly grateful for it.
