Riley's POV
Caleb guides me into the chair beside his, our fingers still intertwined. The weight of his touch grounds me, even as my heart races with everything we need to discuss.
"Now that we have some kind of plan for your father, I want to talk about you." His voice carries that familiar warmth that used to make me feel safe. I stare down at our joined hands, unable to meet his eyes.
"Caleb, I can't focus on anything else right now. Everyone needs to be safe first. That's all that matters." The words feel hollow even as I say them.
He exhales slowly, his thumb tracing across my knuckles. "I understand that, but Freya isn't here yet, and I have questions that have been eating at me for years."
When I finally look up, his green eyes hold a mixture of pain and determination. He deserves the truth. After everything I've put him through, he deserves at least that much.
"What do you want to know?" My voice comes out smaller than I intended.
