Chapter 4 - Chapter 2: The Substitute's Decision

A Change That Shocks the Doctors

Sonia's focus now shifted entirely to her health. She began taking her prescribed treatments punctually and without argument. This was a stark contrast to the old Sonia, who would have argued, made faces, and acted like a difficult child.

Dr. Ethan Black and his Senior Doctor, Dr. Julian Meyer, were both highly surprised by this immediate and complete transformation. They attributed the change to the recent intensive therapy and the initial shock treatment Sonia received.

Sonia (Priya) was situated in a luxurious ward at the Zurich Institute of Neurology and Wellness. It contained everything she needed: a beautiful bedroom, a TV, a study area, and a wardrobe. But her favorite feature was the balcony, which offered a stunning, necessary view.

Redefining Her Career

Sonia sat on the sofa, reviewing a college brochure for Business Management-the career Abhay likely intended for her. Having zero interest in business, she immediately called the nurse and requested that Dr. Ethan be informed: she wanted information on a Jewellery Design College.

When Dr. Ethan Black arrived, puzzled, he asked about the sudden change. Sonia calmly informed him of her new career choice.

"But you need to study Business Management," Ethan countered, surprised. "It will be useful for you in the future, given your husband's position."

Sonia looked at him, her gaze calm but cold. "Dr. Ethan, I am your patient, and I am here for treatment. Which career I choose is my decision, not anyone else's."

Ethan was speechless.

"I will send you the college brochure," he finally managed.

"I also want the scholarship application form," Sonia added.

Before Ethan could protest, Sonia cut him off. "I think I made myself clear, and it's my decision. Thank you." She then turned her attention to the TV and began eating her fruit snack. Previously, Sonia would constantly snack every two hours; now, she only ate her three allotted meals (lunch, evening snack, and dinner), and if she ate, she finished all of it. Ethan left her ward, utterly bewildered.

The Doctors' Dilemma

Ethan informed Dr. Meyer, the Head Doctor, about the changes. Dr. Meyer was equally astonished, contemplating how much Sonia had changed in just two weeks. They both acknowledged that the old Sonia was innocent and childish, and they had started to develop genuine, protective feelings for her. They had maintained strict professionalism to ensure her treatment, hiding their personal concern.

Setting the Plan in Motion

Sonia checked her mobile. She saw multiple missed calls from Arjun and Avinash, and several from the Oberoi Family. She had been ignoring them all for the past week, and she ignored them again.

Her focus was laser-sharp: Health and Study. Ethan had already sent the brochure and the scholarship forms. She knew she had to go and submit them, and while out, she planned to locate a Herbal Pharmacy and find a Part-Time Job to cover her personal needs.

The next morning, after completing her treatment routine, Sonia went straight to the Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Joaillier (A Jewellery Design College in Switzerland). She submitted her scholarship form and was informed that the entry exam would be in two days. On her way back, she spotted a suitable place and applied for a part-time job, asking about the payment structure.

Back at the hospital, Ethan immediately approached her. "How was your day?" he asked.

"Okay," she replied simply.

"Your brother and the Oberoi family have been calling," he informed her.

Sonia looked at him directly. "Dr. Ethan, I will focus on my health and my study."

Ethan stood in shocked surprise, unable to say anything further. Sonia then went to her ward to complete her treatment routine, and the rest of the day passed with routine doctor check-ups.
