Chapter 1 - The Daughter She Never Wanted

A story of pain.

A story of truth.

A story of becoming strong.

Welcome to Stephanie's world....

——————

The house was quiet that morning.

Too quiet.

Stephanie moved carefully around the living room, adjusting the cushions and straightening the decorations on the table. She had done it so many times it felt automatic.

Everything had to be perfect.

Maybe today would be different.

Maybe today… her mother would look at her differently.

With warmth.

With something that didn't feel like rejection.

Stephanie wiped the table and glanced toward the kitchen.

"Good morning, Mum," she said softly.

Evelyn didn't respond.

At least, not immediately.

Her eyes slowly lifted to Stephanie's face—studying every detail. The sharp jawline. The familiar eyes.

Features she knew too well.

It was like staring at a ghost she could never escape.

Her expression darkened.

"Did I ask you to greet me?" Evelyn said coldly.

Stephanie's fingers tightened slightly.

"I was just—"

"Then don't," Evelyn cut in sharply.

Silence fell again.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Stephanie turned away, forcing herself to continue arranging the room like nothing had happened.

Like her chest didn't feel tight.

Like it didn't hurt.

She had spent her whole life trying to please her mother.

Cleaning. Obeying. Staying quiet.

Being careful.

Being invisible.

But no matter what she did…

It was never enough.

Across the room, Evelyn watched her daughter in silence.

Years had passed.

Years since she ran from the place where everything went wrong.

Years since the man who ruined her life.

But the pain never left.

It stayed.

Buried deep.

And every time she looked at Stephanie…

She didn't see her daughter.

She saw him.
